Sunday, February 9, 10pm
This week in honor of Saint Valentine’s Day, several of our programs will be focusing on love and romance as the musical theme or point of departure.
On Wednesday, Feb. 12, Feed Your Head begins the countdown to V-Day with something for the loved, unloved, desperate, and dangerous. Time to update your OK Cupid, ya dirty sloots…
Next, on the eve of Valentine’s Day, Ferrara Brain Pan will feature two hours of songs on the theme of heartbreak and unrequited longing, presenting a broad spectrum of genres ranging from traditional and contemporary folk (Terry Callier and Shirley Collins) to smoky jazz ballads (Peggy Lee and Patty Waters) to New Wave (Til Tuesday and Strawberry Switchblade) to pop and easy listening (Frank Sinatra and The Paris Sisters). Tune in to Rock ‘n Roll Station this Thursday, February 13, from 8:00 to 10:00 AM.
Then at 12:00 noon on Thursday, The Music Department will spotlight love in all shapes and forms (beginning, middle and end), with something to listen to, no matter which category anyone finds themselves in.
Later Thursday evening, Michele K-Tel presents a special V-Day edition of Disco Roto with “Love Is On The Airwaves” at 8:00 PM.
On Valentine’s Day proper, Margarita Azucar presents “Love Recycled,” playing music from the different stages of a relationship along with spoken word readings. That happens on Friday the 14th from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
