Broadcast 41 starts with a short feature on Hand in Hand by Felicia Atkinson. Out on French label Shelter Press, all of her experimentations in modular synthesis were recorded during a snow storm at her home in Brittany. It explores "a moment of common thinking and listening in its diversity and abstraction. In the same way a sci-fi novel by Philip K. Dick or a sculpture by Guy Mees can be percieved: trivial, sensitive and mysterious at the same time." Highly recommended.

Afterwards is an exclusive mix from Richie Panic. A respected selector in the San Francisco area as well as one of the promotors for the successful party Lights Down Low, Panic has been cultivating the Bay Area scene for many years and many years to come. Enjoy.

BROADCAST 40 / JASMINE INFINITI
March 18, 2017 4:00pm
Broadcast 40 has now been podcasted. Beloved Infinite Beat contributor, Nihar Bhatt (Left Hand Path, Surface Tension, Nine), serves as a substitute while host Topazu is out of town.

This episode begins by celebrating independently released, free music that listeners can directly download from artists on platforms like Soundcloud and Bandcamp. The massive catalog of free music that can be shared internationally, encourages more producers to create and express their music as they intended. Bhatt features Bay Area artist Odi me who has a cassette, Line Cook Music, on Jacktone Records. Her latest releases, "Deranged" and "Stone" can be downloaded off her Soundcloud. They are 100% free and highly recommended.

Afterwards Bhatt welcomes Jasmine Infiniti. She is the ferocious founder of the New World Dysorder party crew and has a unique perspective as a DJ, merging her roots in the New York ballroom scene with her fascination with the dark atmosphere of techno. Both Bhatt and Infiniti have an articulate and deeply thoughtful conversation about the heritage of NYC Ballroom culture, intersectionality on the dancefloor, the hellish music that moves her and the inspiration she feels within communities in both East and West coasts. A superb mix by the celebrated DJ follows. Enjoy.

Starting with the latest release from San Francisco's own Left Hand Path Label, Infinite Beat contributor C.L.A.W.S. unveils his latest offering with Stygian Morass, a four-track EP with hallucinogenic, feverish tracks that evokes Nastassja Kinski in Cat People or an erotic giallo. It is both both horrifying and titillating. Highly recommended.

This broadcast also features a lovable chat with a beloved producer and DJ based in San Francisco, Sepehr. He has affiliates with Outpost, a respected underground party from CM-4, Michael Claus and Nackt that recently launched a label). Sepehr has also DJ'ed all over the Bay Area with his electric sets.

He is hilarious and brutally honest. Most of all, he is incredibly hopeful and inspired for the future of dance music in the Bay Area. Afterwards is an exclusive all-vinyl DJ set from the talented producer.

BROADCAST 36 / BARRETT CLARK, JOEY CASIO, MICAH DANEMAYER, CASH ASKEW
January 21, 2017 3:00pm
"Over the last few years, many of my peers have started to shift their creative path from rock and noise into the realms of hardware based 'dance' music. Tekno. This delights me to no end, I feel like I've been waiting for this shift most of my adult life. I get asked for technical troubleshooting advice at least once or twice a week...I don't mind, I love nerding out n helping out...but to be honest this is the advice I have to offer:

Stop trying to be a Performer and try to learn how to be a Facilitator. This is not rock n roll...let go of its mythology of western individualism and accept that you are an active participate in something larger than yourself. Lets do this."

~Joey Casio

"I have some friends and I love them. If they weren't here, neither would I be. I'm not going to pretend to know anything other than this."

This is the first from a two part broadcast celebrating the lives, work and legacy of many artists who are no longer with us: Chelsea Faith Dolan (Cherushii), Johnny Igaz (Nackt) and Griffin Madden of Tri Works. They have influenced us, inspired us, mentored us and shaped who we are as artists, DJs, producers, as human beings and as music lovers who want nothing but to ride the rhythm together.

This broadcast also features unreleased tracks from both Chelsea and Johnny that are deeply personal for many of us as they all represent these profoundly gifted artists. There are also tracks featured that they loved and were moved by.

September 17, 2016 4:00pm
Broadcast 32 of Infinite Beat kicks off with a short feature on the new Nyctophobia EP by mysterious producer A001. Out on MORD, this release is one monstrous track after another, building on the tension and terror one feels when overpowered by darkness. There is no information on this release except for the following note:

~black car’s running
in the rusty light
of a bohemian sunset
while the desert cursed
dust over the words
of a scared man~

Afterwards is a live DJ set from the much respected Nick Ottrando. The man behind the reigns at Parameter, a night specializing in bringing the sound of the UK underground to the Bay Area, Ottrando has been able to not only showcase some of the best talent in the bass and techno scene, but also strengthen bonds among our own community right here in the Bay Area. Featuring several producers who have been featured at Parameter as well as several unreleased tracks, Ottrando is a master curator of sound, not only as a promotor, but also as a DJ. Enjoy.

BROADCAST 31 / NACKT
September 3, 2016 4:00pm
Broadcast 31 kicks off with a short feature on the new release on Blackest Ever Black. The project behind this beautiful record is Tomorrow The Rain Will Fall Upwards? Not a band per se, but a collective effort from the efforts of Conrad Standish, Jonnine Standish (HTRK), Genevieve McGuckin (These Immortal Souls) and Lucas Santanna. There is no indication on who worked on what track. It is not even what I would call a compilation. It plays like a soundtrack from a Takashi Ito film. A very disjointed, non-narrative film that jumps from clarity to a haunting, unfocused ghost. A beautiful release that is highly recommended. One of my personal favorites this year.

After, live in the studio is Nackt, a talented DJ and producer based in the East Bay. He is a part of the Outpost crew, one half of Rare Form party, has a release on 100% Silk, Run the Length of Your Wildness, Gays Hate Techno and has played many long standing institutions of techno and house all over the Bay. He drops an all vinyl live DJ set celebrating much of his love of 70s/80s electronics and those inspired by them. Enjoy.

August 6, 2016 3:00pm
Broadcast 30 is up for your podcasting pleasure. Featuring the intelligent, funny and undeniably talented techno producer The Creatrix. She is known as one half of the experimental duo Felidae with Beast Nest and has collaborated with many other Bay Area based producers like Nine. Now, the Creatrix has ventured out of her collaborations to explore her own solo work, showcasing her emotive, sensual and often emotionally soothing techno.

We start with an exclusive mix from the producer, featuring tracks from Robert Hood, Dream 2 Science, No-Tech label head Ciarra Black and the Bay Area's own Russell E.L. Butler.

After is a segment we like to call "girl gab," where we navigate through topics like Boiler Room trolls, the problems of marketing women in dance music and how she thinks we can create safer spaces for women, POC, LGBT and those that are non-binary.

We end with a beautiful live set from the Bay Area producer. Enjoy.

BROADCAST 29 / BAISE MOI
July 23, 2016 4:00pm
Broadcast 29 has now been podcasted for your listening pleasure. A short preview of the new release by Decollage called Registration. Registration is on the new California-based label Idol Patterns. You can download it and order a CD copy on Idol Patterns’ bandcamp. I highly recommend grabbing a copy.

Afterwards is a solo DJ set inspired by the bold writing of Virginie Depentes and her most popular, controversial work, Baise Moi. Not the best film, but an important one in radical feminist cinema, Baise Moi was a film adaptation of her book of the same title. Directed by her, an ex-prostitute, and porn actress/author Coralie Trinh Thi, it is known as a "rape and revenge" film, though it is a far more radical depiction of the genre (which is normally directed by men). The film is an ultra violent, real sex depiction of female aggression as a reaction to the marginalization, sexual abuse and violence at the hands of hyper masculinity.

Beautifully shot, often with a similar technicolor filter as classic films like Suspiria and Inferno, Amer floats through three events in a young woman's life. Is it reality? Is it a fever dream? The answers are found in your imagination.

BROADCAST 8 / FALLEN ANGELS
May 16, 2015 4:00pm
Broadcast 8 was inspired by Wong Kar Wai's Fallen Angels (1995). A departure from the tranditional Asian gangster flick, the film emphasizes on internalized dialogue and much more experimental cinematography from Christopher Doyle. Like many of Wong's films in the 90s and early 2000s, Fallen Angels has themes of loneliness in the city, longing, desire and heartbreak.

This show explores all of these themes, mostly focusing on the character played by Michelle Reis. Often referred to as the agent, she wears lots of vinyl, plastic jewelry, eats lots of dumplings and is very sexy, sassy and very damaged character.

Music plays a large roll in Wong Kar Wai's films, so a few tracks from the soundtrack were featured as well as the latest release from Oakland based techno producer Russell Butler. He has a superb new album released on Opal Tapes called God is Change.

BROADCAST 5 / JON HICKS
April 4, 2015 4:00pm
A thoughtful, deeply personal set by guest DJ Jon Hicks. This set brings together many of his multifaceted influences that shaped not only his musical taste, but who he is as a wonderful human being. Since we enjoyed talking off air about each song, Jon was asked to add some commentary about what each track meant to him, a moment it evokes, etc. Enjoy.

Tracklist:

Topazu played:

Psychic TV / Infinite Beat

Space Opera / Mandate My Ass

Sumerian Fleet / On To You

In Aeternam Vale / Calling Somewhere

Jon Hicks played (with commentary):

John Carpenter / Main Theme From Assault on Precinct 13 / Death Waltz

"First John Carpenter movie I ever saw, on late night tv in the mid-eighties. Slow burn of blood red credits with this theme dirging along in the background -- still hooked thirty years later. Infected with a life long obsession with synth basslines as a consequence."

Believer/Law / Ashes / Chondritic Sound

"They've already gone to ground, as I understand it - these guys played a series of super intense shows in nyc in 2012 and put out a few tapes before burning out. This record compiles most of their recorded work and for me reminds me of that nervous excitement that came from finding something on a blown out mix tape or VHS and knowing it was exactly what you needed but not knowing shit about it."

16-Bit / Where Are You? / Ariola

"Back when i lived on the East Coast we'd put this on at house parties all the time. It was on a compilation of I think Razormaid mixes that my roommate had on cd from the early nineties - mordantly silly but it really works and I think prefaces a lot of the religious firebreathing satire that Wax Trax was putting out years later.

Cetu Javu / Por Favor / Deme

"Totally hidden gem b side that I first heard on a bootleg compilation that I bought to get a ministry song on vinyl. I associate this vein of synthpop (the plaintive Depeche Mode school) with hiding in the middle of those circular clothing racks at department stores while my mom was sweater hunting."

Nine Inch Nails / Get Down Make Love / TVT

"Early tween crush. Headbangers ball showing the Wish video and working backwards. Trent's sincere love of the source material shines through and keeps this from feeling like a generic spooky rework."

Ministry / Over the Shoulder / Sire

"Not having a giant allowance or any cool older friends, I had to read liner notes really carefully. Down in it was my favorite song on Pretty Hate Machine and it was produced by some guy named Adrian Sherwood - I got Twitch because it had his name in block caps on the back cover.

Einstrzende Neubauten - Yu Gung / Some Bizarre

"My very first Neubauten song! Still hunting after Adrian Sherwood and at this point I think I saw their name crossed with his in a magazine, maybe Alternative Press? I had to hide the record under my bed because the logo really scared me.

Vanligt Folk - Rasseboogie / Progress Productions

"Super intimidating to me because everything of substance about these guys is only in Swedish. Their sound is great, though - big heavy tribal drumming and snotty vocals howling to and fro. something I stumbled on thanks to youtube which would have never been available to me without the internet.

Das Ich - Unschuld Erde / Danse Macabre

"Big big big part of my late high school early college years, which I found out on some gothic mp3 of the week site in russia in like 1996? These guys were/are the real deal - they live in an honest-to-god castle and dress in great big velvet outfits and walk around by torchlight! The synth horns haven't aged as gracefully as some of the more stripped down songs in this mix but the songwriting is tight. Big hooks and shout-along choruses. I would love to find an excuse to play this in a club.

Tommi Stumpff / Der Letzte Idiot / Mental Decay

"I found some badly labeled Tommi tracks on Audiogalaxy in 2001 and spent the next three or four years trying to hunt down anything I could. This is what the screamers would've sounded like if they ever made it into a real."

Andr Szigethy / Liebe Banal / Viper

"One of those staggeringly expensive records that I would have never encountered if not for blogs like Mutant Sounds and 20 Jazz Funk Greats that started cropping up in the mid-aughts. Bless them and the labels reissuing all this stuff! Without them I think I would've bowed out of music in a significant way during the bush years."

Forces / Overland (In My Mind) / Siberia

"Australia, Melbourne in particular, has been the source of so much music that I love that I felt like I had to find a way to pay some tribute back in this mix. These guys have a hand in production or engineering on lots of my favorite records, but took the time out a few years ago to put out this twelve inch on their own that used to be my secret club weapon. Impossible to resist. I'm putting it on right now, in fact."

Front Line Assembly / Big Guns / Third Mind

"My favorite band for a long long time. I think I first heard FLA at a DOOM LAN party in 95? A lot of my musical growth basically comes from reading the liner notes to Millenium, where Bill and Rhys helpfully included a shout out section to a million things I had never heard of...

Portion Control / Refugee / Illuminated

"..which nicely segues to the band that stole their spot as my favorite. There was almost nothing on Portion Control anywhere for a really really long time, just a CD reissue that sounded bad and was released in a vanishingly small number in 1994 before you could buy things on the internet. By the time I heard this track on a Third Generation mix tape i had built them up to almost mythical proportions. Was not disappointed."

Janet Jackson / Rhythm Nation / A&M

"My sister got the tape for Christmas 1989 and didn't like it, so I borrowed it and never gave it back. Sorry lauren."

Hula - Cut Me Loose / Red Rhino

" I first heard this track getting played by Riegler at Warm Leatherette one of the first times I went out in San Francisco. Bought the single as soon as I found a decent copy!

A Certain Ratio - Do the Du / Factory

"Ian and the whole Factory sound had a super profound impact on me - this record in particular opened me up to funk and dance music at a time when I was still about as big a mope as you could imagine."

Stooges / Down in the Street / Elektra

"I came to the Stooges through Bowie. This was everything that I wanted from tough guy music without all the posturing and is one of the few records I never ever need a break from. If you put this on, I'll listen to it no matter what's happening."

Zounds / Fear / Broken Rekids

"I lived in a punk house for a while in the late nineties and got exposed to all kinds of great bands I had been too myopic to notice earlier. I kind of bounced off Crass the first time I heard it, but Zounds grabbed me right away. Some of my favorite new acts are channeling this sound and a lot of the heavyweights are starting to tour again. Really excited to see what happens next."
