June 28, 2012 11:00am

Japa
Guest Star - Julie Andrews!
Wow! what a line up we've got for you today!

Accordion, guitar, clarinet, bass, banjo, and none other than the Amazing, the SPECTACULAR, the INCREDIBLE....dun Dun DUN>>>>>>JULIE ANDREWS!!! (and the crowd goes wild!)

Indeed they did! and indeed they should, cause indeed it is awesome! a blast! an HONOR to have Julie "The Rocker" Andrews on board for this week's episode of The Love and Peace Hour with Japa.

Hellz yeah -

Come on a journey through our musical history together, including numbers from our days in that all-girl power trio punk rock band, Eating Like Truck Drivers, our escapades as SuperNova, (the famed accordion and guitar duo), a trip down memory lane from our days of co-habitation in Forest Knolls, our adventures on the road, and our musical shenanigans out at burning man.

Ah yes, the Love and Peace Hour does it again.

Radio Bob: does what, Japa?
Japa: I'm not sure exactly, man.
Radio Bob: That's what I figured. Enough of all that. Let's just have the setlist.

The SUPERNOVA era - Julie on guitar, Japa on accordion:
"Vilia"
"It's the Tops"
"Dark Eyes"
"Blue Bells of Scotland"

"Boxes" an ELTD favorite, Japa original on bass, Julie on guitar

"The Sheryl Song" Julie: guitar, Japa: bass
"Diamond" by Julie Andrews, ditto
"The Train" a Julie original, with guitar

"Beguine Time"
"A Little Bossa Nova Action"
(these last two from way back in the day, Julie on Piano, Japa on clarinet)

"Green River" an original number brought to you by a sunset overlook at Canyonlands circa 2004...Japa on Clarinet, Julie on guitar

"Rocky Top" oh hellz yeah, Julie guitar, Japa Banjo

way to rock it, kids.

Japa: Great to have you on the show, Jewelbox. Can't wait 'till next time!
Radio Bob: ditto, man.

The Songs and Instrument I don't know how to play Show
June 7, 2012 11:00am

Japa
The Songs and Instrument I don't know how to play Show
I only started playing the banjo about two weeks ago, and all these songs are new to me. but I woke up with a hangover from the drunkenness I experienced from playing them all the night before and without any other real direction on what to do for this week's show, I thought, well, might as well debut some songs that I don't know how to play on on an instrument I don't know either.

Through a newfound friend on the banjo scene, I got word of a local hootenanny the other night that brought me to a stage filled with fiddles, mandolins, guitars, a steel guitar, banjo and standup bass. Consider my inner bluegrass awakened and now my life has changed forever.

This morning I woke up singing "Rocky Top" and an hour later, played it live on the Love and Peace Hour with Japa. where as usual, its hardly strictly *anything*

toes a tappin' with

"Know You Rider"
"Ripple"
"Rocky Top"
"Thank God I'm a Country Boy"
"Buffalo Gals"
"You are my Sunshine"
"Jenny Jenkins"
"Frankie and Johnny"

The ...Another Accordion! Show
May 31, 2012 11:00am

Japa
The ...Another Accordion! Show
Well, we started out the program playing the theme song on the accordion, and then, there was a call for another accordion number. and since we were there, with the accordion and all, well, why not play another accordion?

Once the ball got rollin', it became apparent that the audience just kept wanting more, and so, well, we rolled with another song on the accordion.

Getting deeper into the repetoir of accordion numbers it was like, well, these are just too good to pass up...have to...well, play another accordion.

Another accordion song later and it was getting close to the end of the show, and so, why stop now? might as well just play another (song on the) accordion.

dig it:

for all you accordion lovers out there:

"Gypsy Polka"
"Red River Valley"
"Sweet and Low"
"Vilia"
"Way Down on the Swanee River"
"The Village Tavern"
"It's the Tops"
"Jamboree"
"Blue Bells of Scotland"
"Dark Eyes"
"Turkey in the Straw"
"Beer Barrel Polka" (abbreviated*)

*we sorta got cut off there at the end.
better start with this number next week.

that is...if they let us back...

The All-Originals, All-Equiptment Failure Show
May 24, 2012 11:00am

Japa
The All-Originals, All-Equiptment Failure Show
wow, this was quite an exciting episode of The Love and Peace Hour.
can you say **AMAZING** performance by special guest, Lauren Arrow, who made her official Kazoo debut on this show, making the $8000 we paid her for the hour appearance ALL worth it.

oh my godness, but how about those cable, mic and mixer goblins? oh yeah, they were sure out to get us today, but no worries...The Love and Peace Hour wins again, with a half plugged, half electric, half acoustic (Radio Bob: um, excuse me, Japa, that seems like one too many halfs...) but yeah, um, it was interesting, and awesome, and thrilling, and wonderfully painful, all at the same time.

Still high from our Kundalini Yoga set performed out on the driveway earlier that morning, Japa and Lauren bring you a wonderful set of unrehearsed original numbers featuring Lauren Arrow on keys, kazoo, and backup vox along with Japa on guitar, guitar and, uh, occasionally amplified vocals.

So here you go, folks - eat 'em and weep:

"Krishna Rhada"
"Freedom, the Wind"
"I Don't Need to Keep Lookin'"
"Alone in the Moonlight"
"Light on the Shore"
"Your Neck for Dinner"

all originals by Japa Kaur

Enjoy!!

and yeah, if anyone out there has any knowledge of studio recording/performing/musical amplification equipment and what the h do all those little buttons and sliders and knobs mean anyway??, please let us know. thank you.

The Historical (in)Significance of May 17th Show

Japa
The Historical (in)Significance of May 17th Show
Throughout history, extremely facinating things have been happening throughout the world on May 17th. Find out what they are, and the songs that (don't really) go along with them.

This show just chock full of interesting, strange and random factoids about the significance of May 17th, including the fact that on May 17th, 2012, Radio Valencia aired the strangest episode of the Love and Peace Hour ever.

"Happiness Runs" Donovan
"Scarlet Bagonias" Grateful Dead
"Try" Janis Joplin
"Down Easter Alexa" Billy Joel
"Cry" Janis Joplin

The (mostly) All-Piano Show
May 10, 2012 11:00am

Japa
The (mostly) All-Piano Show
wow - quite a hodgepoge here...um, yeah...we kick it with some Piano numbers of various shapes and colors, we've got:

The Preverbial 12 Bar Blues, traditional, followed by
"You've Got a Friend", Carole King
"Riders on the Storm" The Doors
"On the Weekend" a Japa original, dedicated to Karen, thus begin the Mother's Day tribute portion of the show,

followed by, a couple not-so-piano-like numbers:

"From Mom" Japa Kaur
"Closer to Fine" Indigo Girls

and then back to the piano for the finale...

"Everything's Alright" from Jesus Christ Superstar, and
"Ripple" The Grateful Dead

woooo weee - what a show.

also a shout out to other musicians who might like to perform on "The Love and Peace Hour" - you are welcome! Please inquire.

LIVE musicians, only, please

dead corpses need not apply.

The Show with No Theme
May 3, 2012 11:00am

Japa
The Show with No Theme
that's it, folks.
that's just the way it is.
no theme this time.
Just me and Radio Bob -
wailin' away with a bunch o random tunes with no known thread or connection whatsoever.

"I Love my Shirt", by Donovan, just because Lindy and her Dad said so.
"For What it's Worth", Buffalo Springfield, because Julie has this really cool dance that she does with it.
"Freedom the Wind", Japa o Japa came up with this one while crossing the Richmond Bridge on her motorcycle one day.
"Space Oddity", by David Bowie, a true Legend. I mean, come on, hello *stud muffin**
"Love the One You're With", Crosby, Stills and Nash - catchy, right? we love it.
"Closer to Fine", Indigo Girls - token chick song, dedicated to *wrybread*, of course.

due to gremlins in the internet cables, due to Radio Bob having too many mimosas at breakfast, we got a bit of a late start, so only just these 6 songs for this show, just 39 minutes of love and peace this week, I hope its ok for everybody.
more next week, folks.
promise. see you then. rock it.

but she is sleeping right now...

...while Lauren, Japa and Radio Bob stay up late to bring you live tunes from the hut -

totally rockin' it man - all the neighbors gettin' down big time. Even the deers were toe-tappin' out in the yard.

then, dun dun dun -
Mercury has his way with us, internet cable pulls out from the computer, and we have connection loss around minute 38,
connection loss realized around minute 58

The All-Cat Stevens on the couch Show

The All-Cat Stevens on the couch Show

I think the title pretty much says it all on this one.

Radio Bob: good call, Jap.

The Post-Birthday Show
March 15, 2012 11:00am

Japa
The Post-Birthday Show
Ok, so this week, we're celebrating my birthday - again! - with tributes to those who made it all possible!

That'd be - good ole Mom & Dad

Fur Elise, Mom, this one's for you, and the close out
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band (with accordion AND special guest *stars* Lauren Arrow and "racecar" Christopher), Poss, this one's goin' out to you.

Thanks for the good times, Thanks Radio Bob for always being there, oh and big thanks to Cricket, my new best friend at the Freestone Bakery, (with whom I share the March 10th birthday) for throwing that extra cinnamon roll in my bag the last time I was in. ;)

The first one - Bobby McGee is goin' out to you, Cricket,
followed by
Sugar Magnolia - just in time for the entrance of our surprise special guests!

Radio Bob: why Sugar Magnolia, Japa?

Japa: well, Radio Bob, because on the day I was born in 1976 the Grateful Dead did a show at the Grand Canyon, and this was the song that they were playing at the very minute I popped out.

Radio Bob: really?

The All Dylan - All Hour - All yeah.....show!

The All Dylan - All Hour - All yeah.....show!
Awwwwww yeah,
Good times here at the Love and Peace Hour with Japa -
this episode is going out in dedication to my good bud and fave teacher o mundo, Mr. Hari Simran Singh, "Dr. Yogi" Khalsa for all his inspiration and kind words and love over the years not to mention his encouragement toward me and my music, especially with regard to one of our mutual favorite artists, a Mr. Robbidy Bob Dylan, yes, featured here all in abundance and Bobalicious glory - all the Bob we can squeeze into one radio hour, amongst the Japa antidotes and screaming fans from the bleachers outside the hut, via Radio Valencia 87.9, Radio Bob, Rio, the Piano, computer and I, we proudly present:

Tangled up in Blue
Subterranean Homesick Blues
Lay Lady Lay
Don't Think Twice it's Alright

Knockin' on Heaven's Door

awwwwwwwww Bob, awwwwwwwww hour, awwwwww yeah.....

The Post-Valentine's Day Show
February 16, 2012 11:00am

Japa
The Post-Valentine's Day Show
Well, despite a couple technical snafus/broadcast interruptions where the show repeats a certain random segment early on in the show over and over again (is this groundhog day?) (no, wait, that's a different show - see a couple episodes back) um...then reverts back to Robo DJ for a minute then comes back in, this show went, uh, quite well, don't you think, Radio Bob?

Radio Bob: sure, Japa. if you're the kinda person who likes to hear crazy stories and cheezeball love songs by Japa, quotes from God, and covers with really great vocals but really bad guitar distortion. (or, wait, is that...really great guitar distortion but some really bad vocals?) sure...

Japa: a bit sad, um, Valentine postpartum, putting away the red sweater with the puffy white hearts for another, uh, 12 months?? say it isn't so....

so there you have it, folks, the Post-Valentine's Day show c/o The Love and Peace Hour with Japa. dig it.

"For You"
"Light on the Shore"
"Husband Lord"
"Someone to Love"
"Piece of My Heart"

woo!

see ya next time on the ole Love and Peace Hour!

The Pre-Valentine's Day Show!
February 9, 2012 11:00am

Japa
The Pre-Valentine's Day Show!
Pulling out the red sweater with the big puffy hearts to get you all revved up for Valentine's Day, Japa and Radio Bob bring you a PLETHORA of cheesy love songs to wet your...uh...whistle....

Japa pulls out some numbers from inside the old piano bench in the days of WHOM, we've got "Longer", "Time in a Bottle", followed by "Your Song", and the ever-popular Eating Like Truck Drivers number, "The Donut Shop (a wrybread favorite).

After rockin' this one bass style, it's back to the guitar with the Japa original number, "The Blue Ballin' Blues", followed by a duet* between Japa and Radio Bob aka Dolly and Kenny with "Islands in the Stream"

WOW - there are some pretty bad musical moments in this episode, but hey, the audience sure did like it - they were cheering louder than *ever* - so much that they practically blew out the speakers in the hut, and sure enough you can hear the mixer overloading and crapping out, speakers sparking for the last part of the show, but HEY - that's the fun of live radio!!! and in the end, of course, just....Let it Be!!

*a request made by smartass John Hell during a previous episode of the Love and Peace Hour.
So this one's for you, John Hell, and your new bride (pending). Just don't ask Radio Bob and I to sing it at the wedding.

The Groundhog Day Show!
February 2, 2012 11:00am

Japa
The Groundhog Day Show!
What songs do you play for a groundhog day radio show?
I have no idea....

songs about the weather?
songs about coming out of your hole and being loved?
how about a song by Dave Manning?*

Find out what Japa and Radio Bob have in store on these week's *crazy* version of The Love and Peace Hour - Groundhog style!

Um, let's see, we have....

Over the Rainbow - Judy Garland
Echo Canyon - Holly Bluementhol & Japa Kaur
Hey - Dave Manning
Kehelelanis 3 - Japa Kaur
Wild World - Cat Stevens
A Gift to Everyone - Deborah Roberts
Let it Be - The Beatles

Program note: this radio hour cut a little short, cause in the beginning forgot that the streaming broadcast numbers had *changed*, OOPS - so a little slow on the uptake, and so on the end, got cut off a little short when DJ Deevice fades in so we didn't exactly get to hear the rest of the last song, oh well, Let it Be.

*Dave Manning? who is Dave Manning? I don't know. but maybe the electrons at www.davemanning.net have an idea.

The Home Sweet Home Show
December 26, 2011 11:00am

Japa
The Home Sweet Home Show
After over two months of being on the road, Japa is back! and excited to be broadcasting from good ole home sweet home!!

Best of all, she is reunited with her gang of instruments, and stoked bring you a show of live music all done with all the instruments that have been holding down the fort while she has been gone.

This hour we'll hear a number on the piano, a song with the Ukulele, 3 with Arthur the accordion, the bass, more piano, and finale with Har Jank Singh.

Have your volume dial handy to compensate for Radio Bob's lack of technical skill in keeping levels even.

Meanwhile, enjoy Mozart, old time favorites whose composers are unknown, and a special Japa original made famous with her rock band "Eating Like Truck Drivers" - Awesome!

**Technical footnote - NO guitars were harmed, strummed, molested or touched during the production of this show.

*************another Technical footnote - a bit of an oversight...one instrument in the hut that was *not* played during this show was the PF (penis flute) - but hopefully we will make up for that during the next Home Sweet Home show...because certainly there needs to be another one...soon!

The Mercury Retrograde Turkey Leftovers Show
December 12, 2011 12:00am

Japa
The Mercury Retrograde Turkey Leftovers Show
This is a re-do (how Mercury Retrograde!) of the "Turkey Leftovers" show, recorded in a small town just south of Rome, on a Thursday after Thanksgiving.

This show features songs that were "leftover" from the past three or four shows - that is, they didn't quite make the cut in the final moment - - and so, now they have been hanging out in the fridge getting stale, so we (Radio Bob and I) decide to pull them out and give them some air play before they grow green hairy legs and walk away.

So yeah, here it is - the "Turkey Leftovers" show, in full Mercury Retrograde glory, (the first two attempts at this show were fraught with technical difficulties and scheduling/travel snafus) features songs leftover from the Egypt show, "Walk like and Egyptian", "Horse with No Name" and a few numbers that the Grateful Dead played at their show at the Giza pyramids in '78. (sorry, Paul)

Also a couple numbers from the Poss tribute show, "Don't be Cruel" and Sonny and Cher's, "I Got you, babe". (my dad and his girlfriend dressed up as Sonny and Cher for Halloween. very cute. (still waiting on those pictures...ah hem!)

Opening the set, a number from the Traveling Songs show, "King of the Road", and, let's see...I think that's about it. oh wait, also, "Ticket to Ride", also leftover from the Traveling Songs Show.

ok, hear it for yourself. rock along. it's good times with those Love and Peace Mercury Retrograde Turkey Leftovers Show! yum yum YUM!

Live from Cairo
November 24, 2011 11:00am

Japa
Live from Cairo
After an afternoon in Tahrir square, quite moved.

My companions were a photographer from Sweden and young man from Damietta, Egypt, who had come down to Cairo to join the occupation for freedom.

We reunited for interviews and chats later that evening. A couple tunes got thrown in, including "The Sound of Freedom is Calling", a song that came out here in Egypt just after the first major Revolutionary movement last January.

Hear the live, raw interviews with Hazem and Mia, first hand accounts of the occupation in Tahrir square, broadcast to Radio Valencia from a houseboat on the Nile.

Wow - it's happenin'. Viva la Revolution!

Birthday Show from the Nile - A Poss Tribute!

Birthday Show from the Nile - A Poss Tribute!
“On this day in 1945 we were blessed with a wonderful son. I am proud of him everyday of my life. He is appreciated by all of us who love him. Happy Birthday and many more.

Enduring love,

Once in a Blue Moon Mutti”

This message just in from my Grandmother, Mutti - one of the many well wishes and birthday requests and dedications that came through all the way here to Cairo, Egypt where this exciting show was broadcast.

Loaded with Golden Oldies, patriotic numbers, and heart-touching call-ins, Japa and Radio Bob entertained a host of excitement for this lively and exciting show, a loving birthday tribute to Japa's Dad, the infamous, one-and-only Poss!!

Thanks, Dan Hallet, for his cameo as the Big Bopper, as well as for hosting this show & its host on his floating home on the Nile.

And thank you, Poss!! You are the best! I sure do love you, Daddi-o!!!

Live From Isreal Part II
November 9, 2011 9:00am

Japa
Live From Isreal Part II
Continuing on...

Live from Isreal Part II, we bring you some consciousness-raising thoughts from a kindred, followed by a little Bob Dylan, since, undoubtedly, "The Times, They are a Changin"

Even when the night is cloudy, "Let it Be" say The Beatles. Musing about the Old City of Jerusalem, most holy ground to Jews, Christians, and Muslims...a big reminder that "It's all God" says Japa.

Answers? Who's got answers to bring love and peace and social justice to the world? Peace within, peace among others, peace with all. Bob says the answer is "Blowin' in the Wind"

Can't forget about the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers. They get a hearty mention in this radio hour, followed by a song by Japa dedicated in their honor.

Answers? More answers. Paul McCartney has an idea...
as does John Lennon who reminds us to just "Imagine"

and that's all for this week. Thanks for listenin', folks. and as always, waheguru!
