The idea that plants and trees use sound beyond the threshold of human perception to communicate, the literary conceit animating this tale, has proven to be TRUE in recent years. Trees, plants and insects constantly send signals to each other-- that's been scientifically understood for awhile. But the most recent investigations into infra-sound are now showing that flowers DO scream when clipped or picked, for example.
