FATHER MURPHY, all the way from I-TAL, will be stopping by Pome Pome Tones tomorrow morning from 8-10am on Radio Valencia.
Father Murphy is the sound of the Catholic sense of Guilt.
A downward spiral aiming at the bottom of the hollow, and then digging even deeper.
Father Murphy over the years became one of the most mysterious and enigmatic musical entities coming out of Italy, part of that community that Simon Reynolds and Julian Cope started to call the new “Italian Occult Psychedelia”.
Since their first album Father Murphy went from twisted psychedelic pop to a more darker sonic exploration. When you listen to their next album ‘And He Told Us to Turn to the Sun’ you hear it is darker, the songs crawl and twist and sound like old biblical serpent. You hear kabbalistic chanting, chiming little bells, tinny Gregorian-like drones played on toy-keyboards. But it also had enough humour to keep the gloom away. There music is so hard to describe, you have to listen to it yourselves…
