Sunday, September 1, 9pm
Join the S.C.R.E.A.M. for P.e.a.c.e. radio show at 10 a.m. for a special Labor Day community discussion, “Slave Labor in America Today.” Featured guest speakers are author Michelle Alexander, Leo Madrid, and Sergio Aldana. In her groundbreaking book The New Jim Crow, Alexander asserts that crime-fighting policies and systems in the United States, such as the “war on drugs” and the incarceration system, disproportionately and intentionally affect people of color. Leo Madrid and Sergio Aldana discuss the prison industrial complex, the rise of the private for-profit prisons, and how these relate to the 13th Amendment.
The Sept. 1st meeting recorded was one of the monthly series hosted by the Humanists and Non-theists Group of San Francisco’s First Unitarian Universalist Society. The Group sponsors activities such as discussion groups, speakers, and social activities for UU members; new members are welcome.
