Paris 1919JOHN CALE (not to be confused with JJ CALE or JOHN CAGE) was one of the founding members of The VELVET UNDERGROUND, and kept himself plenty busy in the decade following his split from that band in 1968.  In addition to producing some of the most important and influential rock recordings of the late 1970s (like PATTI SMITH’s Horses and The STOOGES first LP) he had quite an amazing and productive solo career.  This episode of GE plucks many of the highlights of Mr. CALE’s LPs from that era for your listening pleasure.  Hail the Godfather Of Punk, fellow music geeks!

Lou ReedMr. Lewis Reed (AKA Lou Reed) was a songster/scenester/huckster who arguably was the most important influence on underground rock’n’roll music to this day.  Lester Bangs worshiped him and reviled him in seemingly equal amounts, and he could be utterly brilliant and completely obnoxious almost in the same breath.  This episode of GE will present a chronological overview of Mr. Reed’s career from the early 1960s to the late 1970s for your listening pleasure!

Beggars Banquet Bands on Geek (Ema)Nation Podcast!

One PoundThe 1980s could be a pretty dodgy time for pop/dance music, but the Beggars Banquet label had a lot of the best bands of the era on it, most of which stand the test of time quite well.  With the likes of NICO, JOHN CALE, The FALL, LOVE AND ROCKETS and The CULT on the roster, there were some pretty creative sounds being distributed in the UK by BB.  One Pound Ninety-Nine was what this comp cost back in the day, and it’s a pretty nice sampler of the label’s finest acts circa 1985.  Hear the whole LP and other songs by some of the artists represented, with running commentary by host The Rock’N’Roll Nurse.  Get that Brit on, fellow geeks!
