For the very last episode of the Geek EmaNation Show, The Rock’N’Roll Nurse presents yet another interview with GLENN MERCER, co-founder of indie-rock pioneers THE FEELIES.  In honor of the 40th Anniversary since the first FEELIES club performance and the re-release of the albums Only Life and Time For A Witness, both records are presented in their entirety with commentary by Mr. MERCER.  It’s been grand, but now it’s time to move on, fellow music geeks!

Fans of so-called “indie-rock” tend to swoon at the name FEELIES.  This legendary east-coast originated band provided the missing link between The VELVET UNDERGROUND/LOU REED/BRIAN ENO on one end and R.E.M./NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL/DECEMBERISTS on the other.  The latest instrumental album by FEELIES’ co-founder GLENN MERCER sounds like the perfect soundtrack to an imaginary road film, and incorporates all the depth, fun and surprise that the great FEELIES’ releases had in spades.  Hear interview snippets with Mr. MERCER spliced together with every cut from Incidental Hum, and then the entirety of the FEELIES’ classic Crazy Rhythms on this indie-rockerific show.  Original Geeks are the true OGs, fellow music geeks!

Mr. Lewis Reed (AKA Lou Reed) was a songster/scenester/huckster who arguably was the most important influence on underground rock’n’roll music to this day.  Lester Bangs worshiped him and reviled him in seemingly equal amounts, and he could be utterly brilliant and completely obnoxious almost in the same breath.  This episode of GE will present a chronological overview of Mr. Reed’s career from the early 1960s to the late 1970s for your listening pleasure!
