L.A. hippie/jazz/pop pioneers SPIRIT were a big part of the early rock education of host The Rock’N’Roll Nurse, and looked in the late ’60s like they would be as huge as contemporaries JIMI HENDRIX and LED ZEPPELIN.  But like so many near-miss stories, they had the supreme bad luck of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Hear their classic LP 12 Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus in its entirety, as well as choice selections from their previous 3 records on this love-bead laden episode of The Geek EmaNation Show.  Truckin’ Topanga-style, fellow music geeks!

Songwriting duo CHRIS DIFFORD and GLENN TILBROOK wrote the vast preponderance of the catchy/witty repertoire for their band SQUEEZE circa 1978-1981, and this episode of GE celebrates some of their best work on the 4 LPs released during those years.  Ride that New Wave, fellow music geeks!

From last week’s 2 brother collaboration with SPARKS, this week we have 3 brothers in perfect tune from the early 1970s — THE HUDSON BROTHERS!  With a career that includes hit songs and a nutty children’s TV show (The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show) as well as a horror film spoof flop, this talented trio flew high for a decade, releasing a couple of stellar pop records in 1974-75 (Totally Out Of Control and Hollywood Situation) which are featured on this episode of GE.  Razzle dazzle indeed, fellow music geeks!

Local SF pop hero ARI VAIS from THE CAMPBELL APARTMENT stopped by RV studios to play some live tunes and some new recorded hits from the upcoming CA vinyl(!) EP Sundogs. The unpredictable and freewheeling discussion that ensued ran the gamut from power-pop heroes from the ’70s to irascible Russian hospital patients.  Hear all this and a ton of great KINKS hits on this odd and endearing episode of GE.  Pop with the moderns, fellow music geeks!

New Zealand’s Xpressway Records released a whole slew of great releases from great bands mostly from the South Island from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s.  Bands like The DEAD C, THIS KIND OF PUNISHMENT, ALASTAIR GALBRAITH, GRAEME JEFFERIES, The TERMINALS, and SANDRA BELL got 7″s and CDs on the label, and most of those bands are represented on three amazing compilations: Making Losers Happy, I Heard The Devil Calling Me, and Killing Capitalism With Kindness.  Time to get back in the Kiwi swing, fellow music geeks!

Your host the Rock’N’Roll Nurse had jury duty and got to the show late without any preparation in place whatsoever, but by pulling some choice ’70s and ’80s LPs off the wall and a 2013 release by HENRY PLOTNICK called Fields, he got a pretty listenable show together.
