Broadcast 30 is up for your podcasting pleasure. Featuring the intelligent, funny and undeniably talented techno producer The Creatrix. She is known as one half of the experimental duo Felidae with Beast Nest and has collaborated with many other Bay Area based producers like Nine. Now the Creatrix has ventured out of her collaborations to explore her own solo work, showcasing her emotive, sensual and often emotionally soothing techno.

We start with an exclusive mix from the producer, featuring tracks from Robert Hood, Dream 2 Science, No-Tech label head Ciarra Black and the Bay Area’s own Russell E.L. Butler.

After is a segment we like to call “girl gab,” where we navigate through topics like Boiler Room trolls, the problems of marketing women in dance music and how she thinks we can create safer spaces for women, LGBT and those that are non-binary.

We end with a beautiful live set from the Bay Area producer. Enjoy.

Broadcast 29 has now been podcasted for your listening pleasure. A short preview of the new release by Decollage called Registration. Registration is on the new California-based label Idol Patterns. You can download it and order a CD copy on Idol Patterns’ bandcamp. I highly recommend grabbing a copy.

Afterwards is a solo live DJ set inspired by the bold writing of Virginie Depentes and her most popular, controversial work, Baise Moi. Not the best film, but an important one in radical feminist cinema, Baise Moi was a film adaptation of her book of the same title. Directed by her, an ex-prostitute, and porn actress/author Corine Trinh Thi, it is known as a “rape and revenge” film, though it is a far more radical depiction of the genre (which is normally directed by men). The film is an ultra violent, real sex depiction of female aggression as a reaction to the marginalization, sexual abuse and violence at the hands of hyper masculinity.

Topazu played:

Decollage / Shedding / Idol Patterns / 2016

Decollage / Infinity 857 / Idol Patterns / 2016

ADMX-71 / Bound and Broken / L.I.E.S / 2015

Ciarra Black / Mind Pitch / No-Tech / 2015

Adam X / Navigational Shortcut / Sonic Groove / 2012

Boston 168 / Terror Acid / Involve / 2015

Alien Rain / Alienated 3B / Alien Rain / 2013

Daniel Avery / Reception (Perc Remix) / Phantasy Sounds / 2013

Click Click / Rotor Babe / Rough Trade / 1986

Felix Kubin / Atomium Vertigo / Gagarin / 2013

Final Cut / She Destroys (Hilltop Mix) / Full Effect / 1990

Lucy Cliche / Smash / Noise in My Head / 2015

Ancient Methods x Black Egg / Ohne Hande / aufnahme + wiedergabe / 2014

Kirlian Camera / News (Room 506 Edit) / aufnahme + wiedergabe / 2016

Anne Clark / Sleeper in Metropolis / Virgin / 1983

Suicide / Wild in Blue / Wax Trax! / 1988

Chen Yi / Rug / 90% Wasser / 2006

Cha Cha Guitri / Art Negre / Born Bad / 2014

Police Des Moeurs / Premiere Neige / Mannequin / 2015

Parade Ground / Took Advantage / Dark Entries / 2011

Nine Circles / Twinkling Stars / Genetic Music / 2012

*correction: Virginie Despentes collaborator on the film is actually Coralie Trinh Thi, not Corine.

Next Saturday is a solo show inspired by the bold writing of Virginie Depentes and her most popular, controversial work, Baise Moi. Not the best film, but an important one in radical feminist cinema, Baise Moi was a film adaptation of her book of the same title.

Directed by her, an ex-prostitute, and porn actress/author Coralie Trinh Thi, it is known as a “rape and revenge” film, though it is a far more radical depiction of the genre which is normally directed by men. The film is an ultra violent, real sex depiction of female aggression as a reaction to the marginalization, sexual abuse and violence at the hands of hyper masculinity.

Tune in Saturday from 4-6pm. I’ll be playing tons of acid, tons of great techno and synth all inspired by the two women who directed the film as well as the two bold actresses who star in the film as Nadine and Manu. Selections from Milton Bradley, Ciara Black, Lucy Cliche from Sydney, Montreal’s Police des Moeurs, Chen Yi and much more.

Broadcast 28 is up for your listening pleasure. Starting with a short feature on Opal Tapes’ new release by Oakland’s own Russell E.L. Butler. Titled “The First Step,” Butler has taken a leap from the literary, thoughtful introspection of “God is Change” and walks fearless strides with his new EP. Highly recommended.

Broadcast 26 is now up for your podcasting pleasure. Starting with snippets of the new Lavender cassette release on Jacktone Records, Horizons Beneath the Surface. As an extension of his last release, Mystique Youth, “Horizons” dives deep into the witching hour, after a wild night of ecstasy and just before sunrise cleanses you of the night’s debauchery. It is a stunning release that is highly recommended.

This broadcast is a feature on Bryan Gibbs, who is a producer, sound engineer and DJ extraordinaire. His work has touched so many people both locally and beyond. From SF institution The Com#, Inhalt (Dark Entries) and playing for years as a respected DJ, Gibbs is moving towards the future with his own solo productions and collaborations with another gifted producer Amber Cox.

This exclusive mix from Gibbs highlights not only his complex meticulousness in production but also his love of merging the dance floor vibe with a darker, almost mystic quality. Enjoy.
