ESZTER BALINT Airless!
ESZTER BALINT grew up in 1980s New York, surrounded by the swirling sounds of No Wave and every other type of music and musician imaginable. She became a star in a role as a young ambivalent Hungarian woman in Jim Jarmusch’s first feature film Stranger Than Paradise, and in addition to notable film and television roles since that auspicious debut, has continued a parallel musical path, culminating in a remarkable release from this past year called Airless Midnight. Hear snippets of a freewheeling discussion between your host The Rock’N’Roll Nurse and Ms. Balint along with the entirety of Airless Midnight on this unusually revealing show. STEVEN KALINICH and JON TIVEN have been around various and sundry elements of the rock'n'roll scene since the swinging '60s, hanging with the likes of several BEACH BOYS, some ROLLING STONES, ALEX CHILTON, PAUL MCCARTNEY and many others across the years. They've also written over 1000 songs together, and a small portion of those songs have appeared on 2 remarkable albums released over the past few years, most notably on their most recent release Each Soul Has A Voice. You'll hear that entire record with discussion/commentary by its creators on this unexpectedly spiritual and philosophical GE episode. Inner/outer peace never rocked so hard, fellow music geeks!

DWIGHT TWILLEY's Power Pop Pleasure!
Criminally overlooked despite producing one of the most stellar power-pop singles of the 1970s ("I'm On Fire"), DWIGHT TWILLEY BAND is finally getting its due in films like Diary Of A Teenage Girl 40 years later. The 2 LPs that were the total output of the band between 1974-1978 are quite amazing in their songcraft from beginning to end, and you can hear both Sincerely and Twilley Don't Mind in their entirety in this episode of GE. Make TOM PETTY move over, fellow music geeks!

REG DWIGHT's Inspired Collaboration!
Many think of REGINALD DWIGHT (aka ELTON JOHN) as a cheesy over-the-top pop-rock lightweight, but on closer inspection his early collaborative work with lyricist BERNIE TAUPIN holds up well more than 40 years on. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is arguably their most ambitious and successful work, a sprawling 2-LP set that took the world by storm in 1973. Hear this surprisingly eccentric album in its entirety with commentary by your humble host The Rock'N'Roll Nurse in yet another exploration of the power of collaboration. EJ rockin' with your DJ, fellow music geeks!

OSMONDS' Heavy Plan!
In 1972-3, the world was getting pretty heavy, and teeny-bopper brother sensations THE OSMONDS were not immune to the music trends of the time. They released 2 LPs in succession that surprised fans and foes alike with their ferocity and their odd presentation of Mormon Church doctrine. This episode of GE features those two albums (Crazy Horses and The Plan) in their entirety for your listening "pleasure" and religious cult edification. Rock hard with the LDS, fellow music geeks!

The Last Day Of Winter Explored!
The album The Last Day Of Winter is an extraordinary document of a particularly difficult experience. BRIAN WILSON's Fab Collabs!

BRIAN WILSON's Fab Collabs!
In the period 1965-66, The BEACH BOYS were in major transition, moving from an infectious touring pop band playing its innocuous pop hits to a serious contender in the pop artistry sweepstakes. At the heart of this change was songwriter/producer wunderkind BRIAN WILSON and his chosen lyrical collaborators Tony Asher and Van Dyke Parks. The result was two intriguing and engaging albums, Pet Sounds and Smile. While Pet Sounds stands as a beautifully creative response to The BEATLES' Rubber Soul, Smile was destined to be abandoned and never officially released. Hear both works in their entirety (the latter as re-recorded and finished by WILSON and PARKS in 2004) and selections from the hastily recorded Smiley Smile on this episode of GE. The pain of genius unmasked, fellow music geeks!

So Bad It's Good! (with MISS DEENA)
The Rock'N'Roll Nurse gets a huge boost this week from special guest DJ MISS DEENA, as 2 vinyl lovin' fanatics sport their most questionable finds from across the years. Weird, obscure, headscratching, goofy, zany -- you'll hear the likes of YMA SUMAC, RICHARD SIMMONS, RODD KEITH, JIMMY HASKELL, SAMMY DAVIS JR., BARRY MANILOW and MIKE NESMITH on this very special episode. Cognitive dissonance in spades, fellow music geeks!

ENO +1 for you, fellow music geeks!

JEAN SMITH on 2 FOOT FLAME and MECCA NORMAL!
JEAN SMITH is arguably Canada's best-known musical feminist agitator, and in the 1990s had an explosive output of material playing with both 2 FOOT FLAME (featuring New Zealanders PETER JEFFERIES and MICHAEL MORLEY) and MECCA NORMAL (with guitarist/artist DAVID LESTER). She tells her own story of participating in both bands, the latter of which lasts to the present day, for this in-depth episode of GE. Rage grrrl style, fellow music geeks!
