Episode #146: DiY Bands Special Vol. 1 featuring Friday Night Nutz
This has to be one of my favorite shows to have done. The interaction with the band and getting to know them and their music is very rewarding. The music industry is so much different than when I first started listening to music. Back in the late 70's through probably about the early 2000's, the goal for any band was to get signed to a major label and then get their help with promotions and concert bookings. There were small labels for middling bands to get their music out to the world, but the label support was limited and rarely did those bands crack the ceiling into international stardom. When Nabster and online streaming became a thing, the shift from record sales went to merch and touring, even for larger bands, became the norm, and making a living as a musician even more difficult. With recording technology becoming simpler to use, easier and less expensive to access, the world of DiY has exploded and there is so much out there to choose from. It's an amazing abundance of great music to draw on, especially for someone like me who says "Genres?.....we don't need no stinking genres." However, with that abundance comes the problem of standing out amongst the rest of the deluge, and the saturation means that really talented artist have virtually no support. I look for groups like this as they provide me the most interesting new discoveries, and I love to share.

If you are one of those artists who are doing it yourself, and you would like a chance to have you band featured with a new release or just some shameless self-promotion, please get in touch with me.
