Conflux Cornucopia Cerebellum Cocktail Hour: Episode #044: Beyond the Dusty Edge of Nowhere

June 3, 9pm

Podcasts

Welcome back to the Conflux Cornucopia Cerebellum Cocktail Hour. Back in December, I started you on a mystical ride out to a Dive Bar at the Dusty Edge of Nowhere. (Episode #020 which originally was broadcast on 12/1/21). This show picks up where that show left off. Throughout this show I felt oddly inspired to drop into (and sometimes out of) a character that somewhat resembled a hybrid of Hunter S. Thompson and William S. Burroughs. So you get some creative “cheese”, and some off the cuff rambling that certainly is derived “Fromunda.” Great mystical ride with fantastic music. It’s a good episode to use headphones on as I sprinkled a little mixing board magic here and there to enhance the vibe.

Conflux Cornucopia Cerebellum Cocktail Hour: Special “Speakeasy” event: The Redacted Part 1

May 30, 10pm

Podcasts

I decided to take advantage of the fact that there is no DJ during this timeslot on Saturdays from 6-8 and do an impromptu show. In keeping with the Cocktail party theme of my normal show, I decided this “Secret” cocktail party was in a Speakeasy. Also, it affords me a chance to bring in a long time and very dear friend and brother, DJ Lightning Gecko. The format will be a recurring one which I call the REDACTED. Cover versions, B-sides, demo takes, alternate versions, hidden tracks, remixes…etc. mostly covers this time out.
This show was a lot of fun to bring to you in its raw state, warts, and all. We also had DJ Ruffin from the LP Lounge join us about halfway through third set and we hung out with him during his first segment. Please check out his show as well as Ace’s Space which was the show immediately preceding this special “Secret” show. First track is the last track from his show (about half the song) which kicks ass.
Set List:
1. FIRST TRACK CARRY OVER FROM ACE’S SPACE: We Ride the Night by the Boneless Ones
2. I Will Survive by Cake (Gloria Gaynor)
3. Ring of Fire by Social Distortion (June Carter Cash & Merle Kilgore)

28. Date Rape by Fishbone (Sublime)
There’s some fun banter that follows this last song during the first couple minutes of the LP Lounge with DJ Ruffin.

Conflux Cornucopia Cerebellum Cocktail Hour Episode #042:  Prognosis: Prog Rock

May 26, 11pm

Podcasts

the show starts with carry-over from Skeevy Side Show….Anarchy UK by the Sex Pistols. Even though Punk is about polar opposite of Progressive Rock, I love both genres….so it remains.

After carefully studying the symptoms, it seemed to me that a heavy dose of Prog Rock was needed.

Conflux Cornucopia Cerebellum Cocktail Hour: Episode #041-Overthrowing the Kingdom Within (A concept album by an imaginary band.)

May 20, 12am

Podcasts

This set of music is put together to be interpreted as single band generating a concept album. A double album rooted in the phenomena of multiple personality disorder. The characters are linked to the central persona referred to as “King”. Some personalities praise/fear/respect/protect the “King” as a form of self-preservation, others wish to slay the “King” and assume control, and few outliers that simply want to jump in the driver’s seat from time to time. There’s a hint of an external relationship with a possible lover/therapist that is engaging with these personas.
Even though I am presenting all the lyrical content here, this concept may seem a bit of stretch, and I suppose the imagination needs to be stretched to engage in this as I have intended it. Hopefully you will allow yourself the illusion and consider this, at the very least, a good soundtrack to a movie, and at best, the work of single artist.
The Imaginary Band goes by the name: Obsidian Masque and the album title is Overthrowing the Kingdom Within.

(NOTE: Obsidian Masque is the name of a real band, MINE, and though it is currently not active, it is nonetheless NOT Available to use.) I have allowed my radio persona the privilege of its use for this……ok…I know that sounds a little nuts, but I did come up with this story…..

Obsidian Masque: Overthrowing the Kingdom Within

THE FRAIL (INSTR.) (Nine Inch Nails)

THE BRONZE (Queens of the Stone Age)
I been waiting
Waiting under things that rise in the morning
I been holding
Holding back so long
You can own it, take it off my hands, do me a favor
Nothin’ wasted
Just fingerfucked and busted up all at once
I’m so lost out on the highway
With no direction left to go
Everyday sit up and wonder
Where it was I started from
The more you’ve found the less you’ve been around

02 PANIC ROOM (Riverside)
Used to be my Panic Room
The other side of me
Where I slept and woke by turns
And nothing seemed real
I was feeding on your life
Peering through the hole
And it scared me out
Someday
You would knock on my door
Sweet shelter of mine
I’m freezing without
Sweet shelter of mine
I’m dying without
Cover up my twisted thoughts
Shattered all around
Muffled sounds
Recurring dreams
Melatonin smile
Used to be my 302
The other side of light
Trap of my own
That helped me deal
With what I lost inside
Sweet shelter of mine
I’m freezing without
Sweet shelter of mine
I’m dying without
Sweet shelter of mine
***
I’ve tried to make self-portraits before
But they always turn out so contrived
I’ve spent too much time
Correcting light and shade

Hiding wrinkles
Blurring scars
I’ve tried to make self-portraits before
Through my eyes
Just see myself
Now I know
I’m not in denial
That I need someone else
To see me

SURE YOU WILL (OSI)
First
I bit you and spit you out
When there was a doubt
Now
I’m calling you when I can
What is a man?
I did it my way
I did it my way
I did it my way on the highway highway
Be yourself
By yourself
Get yourself a little green pasture
Keep yourself
To yourself
Save yourself
Sure you will sure you will sure
Give take
Crowd control
Can get in my way when I’m starting my day
Teamwork
Self-control
Was making me blue so I knew what I had to
Did it my way
I did it my way
I did it my way on the highway highway
Be yourself
By yourself
Drive yourself a little bit faster
Keep yourself
To yourself
Sure you will sure you will sure

THE AVALANCHE (Vola)
Do you wonder why you wake up with your head inside a flame?
Do you even care to notice the strings you bear?
Did you ever grab the centuries applying to your name?
The avalanche has spoken, what do you hear?
Run all the way, let me feel the earth come down
Crawl as you fade, and we feel the earth come down
Do you wonder why you wake up with a blade upon your skin?
Cutting every frame you follow and every fear
Would you tie a rope around the sun to see the march begin? The avalanche has spoken what do you hear?
Run all the way, let me feel the earth come down
Crawl as you fade, and we feel the earth come down

MR. COMPROMISE (Odd Logic)
I am, the one you want to know
Ask me anything and I will tell them
My whisper echoes everywhere they go
Arbitrator of the mind and soul

I beg for outcomes unheard of
I plead for things I’m not sure of
One day all sides may agree to love
Say you will and this ends

I live in middle ground
Where the mind’s always moving against the world
Faces and personalities
All sides defending the voices coming in

I beg for outcomes unheard of
I plead for things I’m not sure of
One day all sides may agree to love
Say you will and this ends
Searching for you, stumbling through night
Scaling cliff sides, wondering where you hide
Searching for you, meddling for light
Probing for life, seeking where you hide
Searching for you

THEY WHISPER (Beardfish)
I’m circling your conscience
Tip tap toeing slowly
Any day now

You dream the wildest dreams
The kind that fly by night
Any day now

And then when morning comes
You can’t tell me where you’ve been
Any day now you’ll let me in

There’s no way of reasoning
With a primeval mind
And the harder i try, the harder I will fall
And she’ll be running when the voices call
They whisper her name from somewhere
Hiding in clouds of conductive air
Though I’m kicking and screaming
I know she’ll leave me here
To whom it may concern
Let in the morning light
I’m drawn back in to your world
Where depression is king
You speak of dying stars
You say they started wars
Any day now

I crawl by your feet to heal
The powers you don’t know that you hold
Are the ones I can steal
Any day now you’ll let me in
You’ll let me in
You’ll let me in

To whom it may concern
Let in the morning light
I’m drawn back in to your world
Where depression is king

And I shall forever burn

VOICES (Alice in Chains)
Who am I, is this me
Am I one of the team
I’ve gone cold, hard to deal
Used to stand where I kneel
Everybody listen
Voices in my head
Everybody listen
Does yours say what mine says
I want more, than I need
I don’t know what is real
Everybody listen
Voices in my head
Everybody listen
Does yours say what mine says
Anytime I listen
Voices in my head
Everybody listen
Does yours say what mine says
Whispering their names, faces, uniforms I’ve worn
And now that is gone
Always climbing, to fall down again
Holding onto everything that’s not what it seems
I’ve been told, dreaming’s free
Think I’ll go back to sleep
Everybody listen
Voices in my head
Everybody listen
Does yours say what mine says
Anytime I listen
Voices in my head
Everybody listen
Does yours say what mine says
Calling out the names, faces, uniforms I’ve worn
And all that is gone
Always climbing, to fall down again
Holding onto everything that’s not what it seems

NORMAL (Porcupine Tree)
Here is my car, my phone and my TV
I’ve got it all, but you can see through me
But am I here? It’s kind of hard to tell
I do a good impression of myself
But what’s normal now anyhow?
Sullen and bored the kids stay
And in this way wish away each day
Stoned in the mall the kids play
And in this way wish away each day
Prescription drugs, they help me through the day
And that restraining order keeps me well at bay
And what’s normal now, anyway?
Sullen and bored the kids stay
And in this way wish away each day
Stoned in the mall the kids play
And in this way wish away each day
Sullen and bored the kids stay
And in this way wish away each day
Stoned in the mall the kids play
And in this way wish away each day
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little sentimental
Wish I was old and a little

GOLD DISTANCE (Instr.) (Between the Buried and Me)

COLD DARK PLACE (Mastodon)
I love your face and the things that you do
Make me warm sometimes when I’m away
I guess you’d say that at the end of the day
You’ll be the only person here that exists
You left my heart in some cold dark place
Where your love grows on a vine and I see it all the time
I didn’t mean a word that I said
When I was lying to your face about being alone
I’ve gone away forever
I’ve gone away
I’ve gone away forever
I’ve gone away
I reach out to touch you baby
You’re not there
You reach out to hold my hand
Please don’t you dare
‘Cause I’ve gone away forever
I’ve gone away
I’ve gone away forever
I’ve gone away
I reach out to hug you baby
You’re not around
You reach out to kiss my face
Please not right now
What can I say that hasn’t been said before
One hundred times before you took the dog
And I wish I knew how to breathe again
I fear I’m gonna die inside my skin
This has gotta be the last time that we fight
Or go at each other’s throats
Will you go, as I want to mend?

OPAL (Soen)
In your heart lies a devotion for starting pyres
To drown your brother within the mire
You pledged allegiance to gold
In your art, your words laid out in a vacuous manner
The mind is there but the soul is absent
With smoke and mirrors you reign
Time will show
Throwing your own
Into the fire
Vengeance comes
One day we’ll form a
Tidal wave
Come rushing all over and
Come tear down this wall of lies until nothing remains
Turn away, beware don’t be led astray
By vultures that turn our temple to a house of trade
Sleeper kin
A popinjay with a gaudy plumage
Proclaiming lies like a gutless coward
Until your senses are numb
Tidal wave
Come rushing all over and
Come tear down this wall of lies until nothing remains
Turn away, beware don’t be led astray
By vultures that turn our temple to a house of trade
And I know
Yes I know
That all this little things
Are coming back to haunt you
They’ll tear you down in the end
Colliding with your dreams
And burning all you stand for
Turn away, don’t be led astray
From false perceptions
No more lies, no more disguise
No false pretenders
Stand your ground
Don’t wander away
Don’t fall apart
Ask yourself, in trouble
Am I my brother’s keeper

WE ARE (Karinvool)
I know there’s something wrong stop making it up
We’re too proud to see we’ve lost more than our trust
And now there’s nothing left, well’s dead and dried up
Its disease has left a foul taste in our cup
It just keeps on flowing
And we drift on knowing
It just keeps on flowing
This babble from our mouth
Who we are I fear most of the time
Carry on shuffling in order and in line
Who we are I fear most of the time
Carry on whipping boy, stare into the light
Stare into the light
And it feels familiar for good reason
I want us to break the case we’re in
With one of the tools of this catatonic skin
Remove all the parts
I want us to face the shape we’re in
A world of confusion awaits our sons and kin
Lets reset it all
Lets reset it all
Well it stings and it hurts, is this how it’s meant to be
Well it stings and it hurts, is this how it’s meant to be
Well it stings and it hurts, a small price to pay to be
In control and rebirth what our future’s meant to be
Who we are I fear most of the time
So carry on whipping boy, stare into the light
I want us to face the shape we’re in
A world of confusion awaits our sons and kin
Let’s reset it all (we are, we are, we are)
Let’s reset it all (we are, we are, we are)
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I’ve ever had to stand and witness
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I’ve ever had to stand and witness
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I’ve ever had to stand and witness
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I’ve ever had to stand and witness
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I’ve ever had to stand and witness

KING (Tesseract)
You died within me
The boatmen came to sail me down the river
Bind me up with visions of a blind man
I operate this way
Turn nothing into gold
Death on such an ugly day
You dine like a king on top of the world
You show us all
That forgiveness is the weakest call
And now revenge
Against that grudge inside your tiny head
Remove the crown of absolution
Let the retribution fly
The king has all the king has all
But words can kill and maim and take their toll
And you massacre my dreams at night
And eat away at every thought
Until we take control
The king has all totalitarian and carnivore
Bow down submit to me and kiss the ground
Until it’s safe to breathe and coexist again
Bow down submit to me and kiss the ground
Until it’s safe to live and coexist again
They’re taking away the freedom to be just you
They’re taking away the freedom to be just you
They’re taking away the freedom to be just you
They’re taking away the freedom to be just you
But the sun always shines for you
They’re taking away the freedom to be just you
You’d kill to find me
But the crown above my head is deadly
They’re taking away the freedom to be just you
They’re taking away the freedom to be just you

CULLING VOICES (Tool)
Disembodied voices deepen my
Suspicious tendencies
Conversations we’ve never had
Imagined interplay
Psychopathy
Don’t you dare point that at me
Heated altercations we’ve never had
so I’m told
Yet guided by them all
Every single one
Psychopathy
Misleading me over and over and over
Judge, condemn, and banish any and everyone
Without evidence
Only the whispers from within
Psychopathy
Misleading me over and over
Psychopathy
Misleading me over and over and over
Don’t you dare point that at me
Don’t you dare point that at me
Don’t you dare point that at
Don’t you dare
Don’t you dare
Don’t you dare point that
Don’t you dare
Don’t you dare
Don’t you dare point that at

THE VAMPYRE OF TIME AND MEMORY (Queens of the Stone Age)
I want God to come and take me home
‘Cause I’m all alone in this crowd
Who are you to me? Who am I supposed to be?
Not exactly sure anymore
Where’s this going to? Can I follow through?
Or just follow you for a while?
Does anyone ever get this right?
I feel no love
Ain’t no confusion here, it is as I feared
The illusion that you feel is real
To be vulnerable is needed most of all
If you intend to truly fall apart
You think the worst of all is far behind
The vampire of time and memories has died
I survived. I speak, I breathe,
I’m incomplete
I’m alive – hooray!
You’re wrong again
‘Cause I feel no love
Does anyone ever get this right?
Does anyone ever get this right?
I feel no love, I feel no love

AEON BLUE APOCALYPSE (Instr.) (Tool)

OCEANIA (Smashing Pumpkins)
No one can love you
‘Cause no one can free you
Lovers can’t touch you
‘Cause lovers might reach you, yeah
I’m so alone, so alone
But better than a wretched world
Better than a broken pearl
I’m so alone, so alone
Better than I ever was
Better than a just laid cause
Night may keep you sworn
May bring you storms
From chest to stern
The journey’s blessed
The warnings circumspect
With dreams I’ve had
With dreams I’ve had
And still she’s gone
And still she’s gone
Night will fill your rest
Negate you best
With dreams I’ve had
With dreams I’ve had
Oh would I follow you
How could I have ever doubted you?
Sweet baby, nurture me
Sweet lady, if you please
Try the way on me
Try the way on me
Try the way on me
Just try the way on me
Try the way
Skirt the cliffs of your illusion
Find the faith on me
My mistake as the last remaining soldier
Was to take the place of you
Love the way
Love the way and learn
Try the way
Cast off your indecision
Face to face we breathe
Try the way
Cast off your indecision
Face to face we breathe

ALONE AT SEA (The Pineapple Thief)
This is our time
What’s to live for?
This is our time
Nothing more
Look to the sky
It cannot help you
It all melts away
In our drug addled minds
Oh, who cares, who cares?
Oh, who cares, who cares?
Give me your hand
And lets take it
Give me your hand
And we’ll dance to the end
Oh, who cares, who cares?
Oh, who cares
What’s on the other side
You and me
Alone at sea
And I know
We know
This is suicide
You can see
It’s you and me
So hold on, hold on
To this suicide
Give me your hand
And I’ll take it
Give me your hand
And let’s dance to the end
Oh, who cares, who cares?
Oh, who cares
What’s on the other side
You and me
Alone at sea
And I know
We know
This is suicide
You can see
It’s you and me
So hold on, hold on
To this suicide

CHLORINE AND WINE (Baroness)
When I called on my nursemaid
Come sit by my side
But she cuts through my rib cage
Pushes the pills deep in my eyes
(Eyes, eyes, eyes…)
The taste was much sweeter
Than chlorine and wine
And my doctor’s unable
Cut through the cable
Leads to my mind
(Mind, mind, mind…)
In spite of the winter
There’s ways to keep warm
Whatever you give me
Please know that I’ll
Ask you for more
The day I stopped swimming
Came out of the tide
I’d never felt so uncomfortably numb
Here by your side
(Side, side, side…)
Black rose on the bed
Turning to fire
Black rose in the vein
Shine in your eye
Please
Don’t lay me down
Under the rock where I found
My place in the ground
Hope for the fathers and sons
Black rose on the bed
Turning to fire
Black rose in the vein
Shine in your eye
Please
Don’t lay me down
Under the rocks where I’ve found
My place in the ground
Hope for the fathers and sons

HARVEST (Opeth)
Stay with me awhile
Rise above the vile
Name my final rest
Poured into my chest
Into the orchard, I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn’t wait
Drained by the coldest caress
Stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death
All I see is departure
Mourner’s lament but it’s me who’s the martyr
Pledge yourself to me
Never leave me be
Sweat breaks on my brow
Given time ends now
Into the orchard, I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn’t wait
Drained by the coldest caress
Stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death
All I see is departure
Mourner’s lament but it’s me who’s the martyr
Spirit painted sin
Embers neath my skin
Veiled in pale embrace
Reached and touched my face
Into the orchard, I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn’t wait
Drained by the coldest caress
Stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death
All I see is departure
Mourner’s lament but it’s me who’s the martyr

LUNATIC SOUL (Lunatic Soul)
I can’t describe what’s going on with me
A different nature moving rapidly
Being halfway here and halfway somewhere else
My whole life starts to flash in front of me
I’m overwhelmed in joy, quiet and peace
All words I know are three-dimensional
I feel all troubles are gone
I feel all troubles are gone
Timelessness, ineffability
I glimpse the spirits of my relatives
I see the others, the being of light
Shifting through a tunnel, long and dark
I regret all those things that I had left undone
And I wish I could fix everything that was wrong
I wish I could tell you how sorry I am
This is not the end
It’s the start of something that I’m really scared of
That I’m scared to life
I’m scared to life
I’m scared to life
I’m scared to life

Conflux Cornucopia Cerebellum Cocktail Hour:  EP 40:  Down the Rabbit Hole Parts: 1, 2 & 3

May 13, 2pm

As the stars would align to have my 40th episode coincide with Skeevy’s 50th birthday and a trip to Vegas to see the Damned, affording me an opportunity to run a six hour set. I chose the Damned as my central protagonist and how they represent 60’s garage rock in their sound and built the three sets from there.
Skeevy & Bouldt join me remotely from Vegas during set one and DJ Mike Ruffin joins me for set three.
Sets one and two are together in a four hour set and set 3 is an additional streamed file.
