MONSTER MASH-UP
April 29, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
MONSTER MASH-UP
...WITH THOSE THREE MIXED-UP MONSTER kids, Dr. H. Owll, Jett and KrOB. Between 5 and 6 hours, including "clean-up music" as we prepare to depart. This episode contains a lot of technical talk about drawing comic books, among other things. EC Shall Not Die! De(a)dicated to the Mummy, the Frankenstein Monster, Dracula and the Wolfman. Let's not leave out the late Forrest J. Ackerman.

CITY OF THE FUTURE!
April 22, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
CITY OF THE FUTURE!
WHAT WILL WE FIND IN THE WONDER-WORLD of Tomorrow? The gleaming Megalopolis of Technopia? What about Robots rolling right up to you and giving you free samples of smoking material? In our presentation, that's what we encounter. But after many tranches of Augmented Archival Material, just when we'd given up and were reciting William Blake's MILTON, audio-videostar KrOB swept in. Soon we were gliding on an incredible synthesized production from KrOB's mighty brain. So complete was this as an entertainment that we felt compelled not to try to speak over it. And were those psychic anomalies there in the Studio, or hallucinations? You never know. A full five hours of this.

JETT ENGINE POWERS UP
April 15, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
JETT ENGINE POWERS UP
AND THE SHOW TAKES FLIGHT in several not-usually-taken directions, as when, several podcasts ago, we previously veered into the esoteric lore of Baseball. When asked the way a jet engine operates, we are accustomed to answer that it is similar to the way an automobile engine operates: (air) intake, compression, ignition, exhaust. In this episode we discuss fearsome underground spider kingdoms, then reminisce about some of our favorite movies. This retrospective is compressed into consideration of one filmmaker-- Russ Meyer. But his consideration ignites the curious topic of films fetishising, and prominently featuring the female bosom, so often an inspiration. It may be that we exhausted the topic. And round and round we flew. Four hours.

GEE'S GOLDEN LANGUR--
April 8, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
GEE'S GOLDEN LANGUR--
--INHERITOR OF THE AGES. With: Puzzling Evidence, KrOB, Philo Drummond, Mobius Rex, Gary G'boag'fram, the late Pete Goldie, James Earp (descended from Wyatt) and many other old associates, all "on tape." Also featuring Ed Holmes, Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren. So... interesting news for poor old Planet Earth. Although humanity is through, and will soon be eliminated by its own overpopulated mass-canceling of its intellectual potential, a Successor, we've found out, will be ready, soon. That species is even a Primate, and goes by "Gee's Golden Langur" to human taxonomists. What this extremely intelligent but reclusive creature has learned is to SURVIVE-- by merely staying completely away from ANY human. In the least likely part of the world to be contaminated by radioactive clouds, it will receive the favorable mutation Homo sapiens has squandered, even in time for many to inhabit what's left of our former cities. Let's wish this critter the best of luck, as we do during this 3-hour, guest-less show. Augmented Archival Material comprises most of it, so what you get is both canned AND live. WATCH the Ask Dr. Hal! Show this Sunday, April 10th for FREE on Twitch. We are a member of the OSI74 Network. Remember, this is kind of a TV show. Cartoons! Monsters! Girls! Gags! Questions answered! We've made it ultra-easy: go to https://gonzotronics.net/adh/

ST. STUPID'S MARCH INTO APRIL
April 1, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
ST. STUPID'S MARCH INTO APRIL
COMMEMORATED in this episode, did not officially take place at High Noon on Friday. Not officially; his Grace the Bishop himself was not able to rally the believers, and did not appear. Yet the true die-hards did show, and doggedly pointed their pups in the directions of the Stations of Stupid. Now it's all over but the mopping-up. We employ Archival Material to accomplish this, featuring the "Bish" himself, e.g. Bishop Joey of the First Church of the Last Laugh. Herein the voice of Michael Peppe is also heard. Well, we try to remember Placodonts, the buck-toothed, diving, bivalve-eating, flat-bellied, swimming reptiles-- not dinosaurs, but contemporary-- without success. A Mycologically influenced poetry reading at Specs next Tuesday night. KrOB appears and begins typing furiously. HEY, KIDS! BE THERE for the next iteration of the VISUAL Ask Dr. Hal! Show on Twitch, Sunday at 7:00 PM Pacific Standard Time-- it's FREE! Go to https://gonzotronics.net/adh/ --and EVERYTHING will be taken care of. Meanwhile, we hope you enjoy THESE five hours...

KrOB ON THE JOB
March 25, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
KrOB ON THE JOB
FAVORS (AND FLAVORS) THIS Episode. Invocation by Clark Ashton Smith. Catalogue of Ultra-Q characters and phenomena. Tom Thumb-- his biography and then the George Pal movie bio. Smoke pollution invades the Studio. "All scientists don't wear thick glasses." The historical Arthur Rex, King of the Britons. Will he return? The OUT OF THE SILENT PLANET Trilogy. And then... WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS! Speculation... Recollection... Russ "Tom Thumb" Tamblyn... Giant octopus attack... Giant green humanoid monster attack... The Movie Itself! We comment on it. A different edit than the one we're familiar with. Aside to FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD. Then, all of a sudden, we're somehow in the middle of a battle between Marvel super-heroes-- in a junkyard. They're all invulnerable and equally powerful, so the whole thing is a crashing, smashing impasse. Punctuated, of course, with trade-mark quips and one-liners. Movies Are Your Best Entertainment Value. Oh, that KrOB...

WAR AND FIGHTING MEN
March 18, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
WAR AND FIGHTING MEN
ARE UNDER DISCUSSION as guest Jett and Dr. H. Owll discuss War comic books featuring non-commissioned officers, remarking on the service careers of cigar-chompin' Sergeant Rock (DC Comics), Sergeant Fury (Marvel) and Gilbert Shelton's Smilin' Sergeant Death (and the Merciless Mayhem Patrol). EC Comics war titles also get a mention, including VALOR, TWO-FISTED TALES, FRONTLINE COMBAT and ACES HIGH. This brings us to the aerial exploits of Baron von Hammer, DC's Enemy Ace, in both World Wars. We at the Show do wish humanity would Make War No More, as DC's battle stories used to conclude. But other topics are also wide and far-ranging; for an unusual departure from our recurrent obsessions, we spend a considerable portion on the Great American Pastime, which is to say: Baseball. Players, Stats, batting averages-- the Show really does go where it has not previously been. But we hit many of the more familiar notes as well (out of the park?), for hours. Yes, that's four hours.

JETT CIRCLES THE FIELD
March 11, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
JETT CIRCLES THE FIELD
DURING A MEMORABLE 5-HOUR Show. Dr. H. Owll's guest discourses upon entheogens and the possibility that micofungi arrived from an extra-planetary origin, Panspermia in action. Did these mysterious organisms somehow arrive along with the Chicxulub impact event at the terminus of the Mesozoic? What the crater marks was a 100 million-megaton blast that devastated the Gulf of Mexico region first, and then the entire planet. The blast at Chicxulub, which means "Devil's Tail" or perhaps Devil's Cock" in Mayan, generated a core of super-heated plasma in excess of 10,000 degrees. Although that thermal pulse would have been relatively short-lived, a handful of minutes, it would have been lethal for most life of the time. Did we here on Earth get "seeded" then and there, with the death of the Age of Reptiles, by mind-altering alien spores? The aesthetic of collecting plastic hippopotamuses. The giant spider, Theraphosa blondei. Communication between insect species. The movie, NIGHTMARE ALLEY. Plant consciousness. The "Swamp Thing" comic book phenomenon. Daisies and humans share a Genomic sequence for sensitivity and feelings. The Church of the SubGenius and its wonderful works. Are we at the cusp of the great Paradigm Shift? Five hours. Thank you for flying with us.

LAND OF THE PHARAOHS
March 4, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
LAND OF THE PHARAOHS
IS GIVEN THE ASK DR. HAL! treatment-- the Howard Hawks cinema spectacle. Collecting Disneykins. The Mechanical Robotic Barking Pug-dog Skeleton (very hard to deactivate). Exotic varieties of Beetles. "Freedom Highway," a Jingoistic promotional film made by Greyhound Bus Lines to promote its service. Narrow Gauge Film-making-- a nostalgic recollection. Jett's epic Car Crash-- right out of "Death Proof." Entrance of KrOB. Sacredness of the Scarab in Ancient Egypt. Much agitated entomology (as Professor Cavor described a large Selenite gathering). How Yogi Bear mocked Kellogg's Big Otis, burly Scots advocate for OKs Cereal. The geopolitical solution-- first month of WW III. The Azov Army. Deceased various Vegetarians. Ewell Gibbons, the "Bob Ross" of Vegetarianism. Various forms of Kryptonite and their effect on Superman. The Marvel "Second Wave." The Font of Fonzie-isms. All these, and many other topics take up five irreplaceable hours.

THE SNAKE STORY...
February 25, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
THE SNAKE STORY...
IS HEREIN TOLD once (yet) again by Dr. H. Owll. How Dr. H. Owll closely and personally encountered... an abnormally enormous snake. Not in Arizona, in the desert where he used to live, but here, in California. Not in the California southern desert, but nearby to the San Francisco area, in fact on Mount Tam. Not a python or large constrictor, but an amazingly huge Western Diamondback, Crotalus atrox, far larger than the peak of the size range Science allows for these reptiles. Not just a single serpent-- this one was preposterously overgrown-- but, in all probability, a great many others were actually present of the same species. Aand, many additional bits of gossip and quasi-related lore are offered here. Few will believe the story. Those who do are the ones who acknowledge that this world still contains mysteries of Nature. Hey. Kids! Remember to watch the Ask Dr. Hal! Show live video podcast version, coming up on Sunday (as always), March 13th on Twitch (Zoom is so-o 2021). You can do it all, as long as you can reach the web site for that particular show. Here's the URL, which you'll have to cut-and-paste. Don't bother clicking on it here, we mean. Isn't this good enough? Here it is. It's... it's... http://gonzotronics.net/adh/

NIGHT OF LIGHT--
February 18, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
NIGHT OF LIGHT--
SEVEN HOURS OF SIGHT... Seven hours ensue as Jett and Dr. H. Owll range over an expanded variety of subjects: spiders and insects, Rome of the Caesars, the protracted (years-long) death of Voltaire, Republican treachery, Orange and Blue robots, Shakespeare, Gila Golan, comic book drawing days, movies, cartoons, St. George not so saintly, the evolutionary biology of the Unicorn, Jefferson defended, the Griffin versus the Arimaspians, dinosaur anatomy, the JFK Assassination, poetry, pedantry-- the usual stuff. The predictable Hobby Horses are trotted out again. All opinion, salted with undoubted error, a profligate eruption. Better Living through Chemistry. Not for everyone, we suppose.

THE LATE FLEA WEE
February 11, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
THE LATE FLEA WEE
IS LOVINGLY MEMORIALIZED. THERE was a Kitty Kat for the ages. How we miss her. Yes-- it's That Kind of Show. Also, the Host's unfortunately (for him) delicious blood (where various blood-drinkers are concerned. More on Bedbugs, Ticks-- "The Flea, Louse, Bug, Tapeworm-- all the Armies of Disease, Visible or invisible to the slothful, vegetating Man..." --Wm. Blake, MILTON. Some shilling for the Zoom/Twitch upcoming Podcast on the 13th. And, most significantly, the late Welsh comedian Tommy Cooper, a red-Fez-wearing Magician becomes the topic-- his amazing performances and on-stage death... We are fortunate in hosting Jett once again. Just 3 hours-- we had work to do at home on a Perpetually Pending Project (for the First Church of the Last Laugh) and had to "cut it short."

CACTUS BEETLES...
February 4, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
CACTUS BEETLES...
...ARE ONLY ONE OF MYRIAD ITEMS mentioned in these five hours. The Show featured Jett and KrOB-- we also took a Mystery Caller. In the Entomology section we mentioned that strange insect dweller of the Southwestern Sonoran Desert-- the Cactus Beetle --among others. Moneilema, or cactus longhorn beetles are a genus of large, flightless, black beetles found in North American deserts of the western United States and northern Mexico. M. gigas is native to the Sonoran desert at elevations below 4900 feet (1500m). Perhaps as the planet warms they shall ascend the Arizona mountains...

THE CAIRN ON THE HEADLAND
January 28, 2022 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
THE CAIRN ON THE HEADLAND
BY ROBERT E. HOWARD is read in its entirety by Dr. H. Owll in this episode. After that, visiting KrOB creates his own addition to the performance...

THE OCCULT SIGNIFICANCE OF "CHRISTMAS,"
December 24, 2021 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
THE OCCULT SIGNIFICANCE OF "CHRISTMAS,"
WITH CONTEMPORARY EMENDATIONS. Mostly this is a show from December 2018, in which can be heard Sarah Zee, the late Pete Goldie, Puzzling Evidence and "a Galaxy of Stars!" But there are also interruptions and alterations. Neither an actual live show nor an uninterrupted re-run. There are recitations in here, and other things newer than this Archival material. There's one more of these productions to come this year, and that on the la-a-ast Day of the Year...

SPECIAL ADDENDUM TO DECEMBER SEVENTEENTH SHOW...
December 18, 2021 1:00am

Ask Dr Hal
SPECIAL ADDENDUM TO DECEMBER SEVENTEENTH SHOW...
FEATURES the participation (via Studio telephone) of our old friend, Fantasy Caller. In addition to Rodent Control, topics shared between Dr. H. Owll, Jett and KrOB included more on TV star Bill Bixby, the Keanu Reeves re-make of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and Kaiju classic BIG MAN JAPAN among others. The tragic unavailability of Volume 10 of the Turok, Son of Stone Archives also comes up for discussion. Ultra Q, too, a.k.a. Gan Q. Who? Listen-- if you dare.

JETT LANDS AGAIN AT "RV"
December 17, 2021 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
JETT LANDS AGAIN AT "RV"
AND IS JOINED BY KrOB in this Holiday number. Hear a discussion of Ridley Scott's Medieval epic and of the propriety of "tagging" among Graffiti Artistes. All sorts and conditions of subjects are touched upon. Jett orders a Pizza. The tragic death of P.T. Barnum's beloved giant elephant, Jumbo, is profiled for this Holiday Season. That's where KrOB comes in. Quo TIGER BEAT? No, by the way, I didn't "drop." Perhaps another time?

FEISTY D. KATT

Ask Dr Hal
FEISTY D. KATT
(SEEN ABOVE) IS THE TOPIC of this added, post-Anthem segment. The traveled Tabby takes center stage. An Appreciation, by Jett.

ONEIROMANCY CHRONICLES
December 10, 2021 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
ONEIROMANCY CHRONICLES
HERE FEATURE THE DREAMS of our guest Jett, and Dr. H. Owll's interpretation of those dreams. The conversation ranges over many other topics as well during a tranquil evening unafflicted, for a change, by the usual technical difficulties and attendant foul-ups. Early on, we advertise our Twitch podcast (also called Ask Dr. Hal!) on the following Sunday. We like these conversational programs, and hope to have more. Enjoy our spelunking in the Dream World. This was followed by a Panegyric on Jett's pet kitty cat, Feisty, to be found in additional material.

PERHAPS NOT MY BEST WORK
November 26, 2021 10:00pm

Ask Dr Hal
PERHAPS NOT MY BEST WORK
OWING TO VARIOUS PROBLEMS as we host the Pythoness and KrOB. A little jagged, a little ragged. For one thing, we were out of synch with the start time. When you download this episode, expect it not to begin for 10 minutes after our start time. Just forward about a sixth of an hour... Experimental Mutant Radio, so to speak. The overwhelming noise from the Klub next door has never been so oppressive and irritating. But Management told us, "Get used to it." Now, THAT'S a project. Still, there is some Show here that can be made out. KrOB jiggled the handles when he appeared and slowed the whirling of the presentation into the Memory Hole. Onward, ever onward...
