Well it's Halloween and that means it's time for something stronger than dirt, something that will stick to your clothes. Something that's a stain you'll never get out, as hard as you try.
This calls for Iggy!

James "Iggy Pop" Osterberg should not even be alive today. Serious as a heat attack, this guy has nine lives and has used up nearly 20. He has yet to publish a memoir, but when he does you can bet I'll be the first in line to buy it. He's given his fair share of excellent interviews, the best of which appears in the classic Punk history by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain, "Please Kill Me". Also, there's the seminal documentary "Gimme Danger", which I can gladly watch a few more dozen times.

Iggy is more than a showman. He's the most original from a genre that was as think on originals as it was on posers. Iggy does not suffer fools.

On my show tonight I feature two recent shows that show how strong his spirit remains.

First up is a partial show from his Isle of Wight appearance on June 11, 2016. This is a Sky Arts broadcast, and the quality is incredible. It clocks in at about 21 minutes and I really need to find the rest of this show, I can tell you that.

The headlining set tonight comes from a blistering hot show from Jazz Middelheim festival @ Park Den Brandt, in Antwerpen (Belgium) on August 13, 2022. I love how brilliant Iggy still is. He's truly in fine form at the tender age of 75! I tell ya, heroin is a preservative! He and Keith Richards will outlive us all. He's got a young (to him) band backing him up, which includes a small horn section. All the hits are here, and he'll punch you in the throat if you're not having a real good time.

In the there's-so-much-good-new-music-why-would-I-continue-to-share-older-shows-with-you department, first I would say I play plenty of newer artists on this show, thank you very much. And secondly, just take a listen to what I have on tap for you tonight!
This first band really blew me away when I discovered them somewhat recently. Hailing from Houston, Texas, Khruangbin is a fascinating trip that mixes rock and global influences including dub, surf and funk into their mostly instrumental tunes. And what a joy they are to look at!

This show from Austin City Limits, at the Moody Theater in Austin, September 13, 2021 is a great glimpse into a band that is hitting their creative peak. They have a lot of Spanish and Middle Eastern influences in their sound too. I have played them a few times on my Monday 8pm show, Hell's Kitchen Radio, and I'm excited to have this live show to share with you tonight.

Our headliner tonight is none other than son of a ladies man, Josh Tillman, aka: Father John Misty. I was first turned onto him when the FJM debut release "Fear Fun" was released, and I was immediately struck by his tongue-in-cheek lyrics and excellent storytelling. I was lucky to see him live a few times during his first tours, including at the Fillmore in SF, and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass.
This show is a digital broadcast from St. David's Hall in Cardiff, UK, is from April 3, 2022 featuring music from his the career of FTM. It's a stellar show with many remarkable performances of favorite songs.

There was Jazz playing in my house growing up, but it wasn't until I hosted a Jazz specialty show on KFJC for four years, that I really dove deep into the genre. There's so much to discover in this truly original American genre.
Monday night, starting at 6pm PDST I've got two great shows to share with you.

First up is the currently departed saxophonist Pharoah Sanders in all his blazing glory, live from the Early Bird Jazz Club, in Antibes, France, July 21, 1968. This show is early in his career as a band leader, and features the late, great Lonnie Liston Smith on piano, Norris Jones on bass, Majeed Shabazz on drums, with guest Michel Roques on tenor sax. Sanders died on September 24, 2022, at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 81.

Our headliner tonight is undisputed heavyweight jazz vocalist of the civil rights era. The one and only Nina Simone. I can't believe I have yet to play a show of hers on this show. Some might tell me I need to play more female Jazz vocalists. To that I say "no thank you!". OK, actually there is a lot more room for female Jazz vocalists. I'm just partial to Miss Simone.
This show is taken from a professional video, recorded March 25, 1969 at the Olympia Theater, Paris France. Hey, two shows from France tonight, less than a year apart, by two Black musicians who were treated with disdain by White American, just to be loved by the French. What a surprise! This entire show features the brilliant piano playing and singing of one of the most original performers ever to grace a stage.

This show features Nina on vocals and piano, Al Schackman on guitar, Gene Perla on bass, Don Alias on drums. Weldon Irving plays organ, with Gina Rothchild and Doris Willingham on backing vocals.

OK, let me tell you about last night. Holy Hell that was one Hell of an awesome show. And I have been to quite a few. Whew! I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

Two years ago my buddy of 30+ years, The Alchemist (Wednesdays 10-midnight on Radio Valencia), gifted me with a pair of tickets to see King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard at The Greek Theater in Berkeley, only to have it postponed until last night! The wait was certainly worth it.
I've been into this band since "Flying Microtonal Banana" was released back in 2017, and I quickly got on the bus. Hey, I can be on more than one bus at a time! Between then and now I have purchased up everything they have released. OK, I think the only thing of theirs I don't have is "LW".

This band is on a completely different level; a different galaxy. Hell, a different UNIVERSE! The Gizz-verse!

The anticipation for this show was running high, and the line to get into the venue was long and a real



treat. Having to been to my share of shows at The Greek, I was confident we would do OK with seating, as long as I didn't have to suffer that damnable hill. I hate that hill. If you've been to The Greek then you hate it too.
I grabbed us seats center stage, five rows up from the soundboard! The sweetest of the sweet spots. And the crowd around us was better than you could ever ask for. A bunch of younger heads were right behind us. A few from Santa Cruz and their friends who flew in from Minneapolis. Shout out to Jamie, Alec, and Cameron. You guys were really great to dance with. There were a couple guys closer to our age right in front: CJ, and his buddy. It really reminded me of seeing the Dead in the 80s, when band was at a peak.


KGLW came out ready for the three hour marathon. I'm not going to write a show review, but I can tell you that the musicianship, along with the powerful lights and ridiculous video background, really allowed for a fully immersive experience; one I will not soon forget.
I've seen some really good shows lately, KGLW, Kikagaku Moyo, and OCees (Thee Oh Sees, OCS, etc, etc. etc.). The standards have been set pretty high. It's going to take a while to come down to planet Earth after this show.

Tonight, I'm excited to bring you highlights from their two weekends at Coachella, April 15 and 22, 2022, along with the complete Bonnaroo set from June 17, 2022. This a band that is doing what no one else is doing.

There was a saying in the world of the Grateful Dead: "They aren't the best at what they do, they're the



only one's who do what they do". I can safely say the same about King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Go see them live and buy absolutely everything the sell.. They even give a lot of their music away!!!

He's good. He's bad. He's dark. He's full of light. He's Nick Cave. And they are the Bad Seeds. Seeing Nick Cave is far different than just listening to his records. I have had the honor to see him live a few times, and I each time I've been left in serious awe.
I have often wondered if I had what it takes to be a live performer, night after night, always bringing the intensity needed to take the audience on a journey. Few bands live up to the hype. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are one such band. They take these incredible songs and bring them to life in a way few artists can. You'll be exhausted at the end of this show.

Recorded live at the Montreux Jaxx Festival, July 2nd, 2022, this superb show is taken from the video webcast I am ever so lucky to have and to share with you. The show itself is 2:17 in length, and we only have two hours so you're going to miss the final few songs, but what you get is a masterpiece of epic proportions.

John Hell's Live Bootleg Bonanza

I'm a sucker for a good Pink Floyd show. This is the third time since I started this show back in June 2020 that I'm playing live PF. The first show was from 1970. The second was a mix of songs from 67 - 71. Tonight it's the Animals tour from 1977.
And 1977 was night after night of amazing performances. This was a band that didn't change it up much once Dark Side of the Moon came out. So long to the long improvisational jams. In its place was a 2+ hour show that featured stellar playing, lights show, videos and a band playing at its peak!

There are certain songs they would expand on: Money being one of them. This song would often hit the 10+ minute mark. This was also the final tour they would perform Careful With That Axe, Eugene in concert. Roger Waters' attitude to retiring "classics" was mostly about the band being tired of those songs.

This tour would feature all of the "Wish You Were Here" and "Animals", along with "Money" from "Dark Side of the Moon".

I have pretty much every show from 1977, and multiple sources from each, but the bootleg label Sigma has put together some of the best versions throughout the tour, each with good audio quality. Pink Floyd rarely taped their own shows, so soundboards are hard to come by. Luckily there are some great audience recordings during this tour. Tonight this is a mix of soundboards and excellent audience recordings.

I had such a blast at Mosswood Meltdown this past July that I had to share a few more shows from that weekend. There was a replay of the video stream on Twitch recently and local taper "loughney" grabbed it and created a matrix (that's a mix of audience and soundboard recordings for the newbies in the crowd) of a few of the shows.
I chose three I think you're gonna love!


First up are some really close friends of Radio Valencia, Bay Area punk heavyweights, and considered the Godfathers of sludge, Flipper! Steve, Ted and Rachel have all been on my show, and I MCd their New Years shows at Bottom of the Hill, featuring David Yow on vocals. Sadly David is no longer with the group; choosing to pursue his acting career full time. Luckily they have an excellent replacement (there really is no replacing David) with young buck Fletcher Shears from the LA band The Garden. You should have seen the acrobatics! He's really done his homework.
Regardless of what John Waters said in the intro, Steve is not the only


remaining living original member. Ted Falcone is alive and well. I think you can even hear me shout "Long live Ted!" near the start of the show. If you are even a casual fan of Flipper, this show is all the way good.

Next up I have a little taste of my favorite surprise from the weekend. All the way from Valencia, Spain: Podium. This band is fast, furious and in your face for fun! I only took a few songs from their set as a tease. They sing in Spanish and their stage presence is over the top fabulous. Enjoy this tease and then go buy their record. It's worth it just for the incredible cover.

Finally I bring you the headliner, Shannon Shaw. She's a legend in her


own time. Leader of Shannon and the Clam, and the bassist for Hunx and His Punx, Shannon Shaw is the real deal. Even Kathleen Hannah of Bikini Kill threw her some serious praise during the BK set on Sunday night. It's pretty apparent to me that Shannon has spent many hours with the needle on the record. I would love to interview her some time. Hey Shannon, have your people call my people. And by "my people" I mean me. I don't have people. Can't afford that. Sadly, Shannon's fiance (and her drummer) Joe Haener, died tragically in a car accident a few nights ago. He was such a great guy, and I knew the two of them were so happy together. I love Jazz. I thank my dad for having it playing in the house while I was growing up in the 70s and 80s. for my dad it was in the background, but for me any music that was playing was important. If it was good enough for it to be played in my house, then it must be something important for me to hear.
I'm the one person in my family to have gone the deepest where music is concerned. This is especially true when it comes to a genre like Jazz. I fell in love with Miles Davis first, but it didn't take me long to discover John Coltrane. From there all the be-bop greats came flooding through, leading to more contemporary artists including John Zorn, Sex Mob, and Angel Bat Dawid.

On this show I have three artists, two of whom have passed, that made their mark on the genre known as Jazz. Jazz is many genres, and tonight you'll get a taste of two: Jazz-Funk, and Be-Bop.

First up, I welcome you to a small club, the Village Gate in the great Jazz city of New York City. The artist is the late, great Gil Scott-Heron with Brian Johnson and the Midnight Band, sometime in 1976. If you have ever lived in, or around a big city anywhere in the world, or if you have ever been in one long enough to catch it's flavor, you need this music.

This music speaks the city, with latin-tinged jazz fusion, street-corner down-home musicians playing the local riffs with bongos and drums. In this case, the neighborhood kid made it big, but not big enough that everybody has heard of him. It is a low-down dirty shame that you probably haven't heard of Gil-Scott Heron. But, you need to hear him, just the same. And, after your jaw drops and shatters in a million pieces on the floor, you might ask yourself: What the fuck happened to this kind of feeling?

In this case, the city is New York, but don't let that fool or bother you. The fact that it is New York means that this particular kind of music is the real thing, not some plastic wannabe or club act. It is genuine, gritty, soul conscious, and completely real.

Our headliners tonight feature the great drummer Max Roach, who crossed from early bop to be-bop, towards hard-pop, free-jazz, and even some funk. With him is a living legend on the saxophone, Sonny Rollins. We even get Freddie Hubbard on trumpet for the first few tracks.
This amazing show is from a European tour in 1966. On this stop in Konserthuset, Stockholm, Sweden, November 10, 1966, Roach, Rollins and crew play three devastatingly solid tunes in one hour!

As a huge Dead Freak it's surprising to me that I play so little Grateful Dead and Garcia-related acts on my show. One would think I would saturate the internet with all-things-Dead. Taking a look at the most tagged artists on my blog, the Grateful Dead com in at number three behind the Melvins and Ty Segall. And this is after almost 20 years of this radio blog.


I think I have shied away because you can hear them at any time on any streaming service, and so many radio stations have a specialty Grateful Dead show. Radio Valencia was lucky to host Dead Legs for a number of months! That being said we are currently in what is known as the Days Between. These are the days between the birthday of Jerry Garcia, August 1st, and his passing, August 9th. For us Deadheads this is a sacred time. It's a time to share stories, pictures, our favorite live shows, and hold one another closer, in celebration of the one who took us on journeys we will always be grateful for.

I got on the bus when I was 12, way back in 1982, and am still enjoying the ride.

When it comes to Jerry, there are many who haven't taken the time to explore his musical output outside of the comfort of the Grateful Dead. Jerry was known to never put his guitar down. He certainly would have played all night, had the clubs allowed him too. And there were many nights he would show up at an after-hours club, following a Dead performance to sit in with friends into the wee hours of the morning.

In the earlier days, 67-74, Jerry was lucky enough to be able to play the smaller more intimate clubs,

where he could really stretch out, without being hounded as some kind of guru, which he was not! The show I'm sharing tonight is one such place. Jerry, along with organist Merle Saunders, played almost 300 shows together between 1970 and 1975. These were some real precious shows, not to be missed.
The show tonight, November 02, 1974, from the Keystone in Berkeley, is a real treasure. I have often stated that seeing Jerry without the Dead is like going to Church. And John Hell is NOT a religious man! If there is a Goddess then it's in the music created by Jerry and the musicians he surrounded himself with.

After seeing Melvins and Helms Alee this past week I knew I had to get loud for this show. I think I have the perfect solution.
Two shows from the recent Glastonbury Festival. And these shows are really really loud.


First up, from June 24, 2022 are Idles. They aren't Punk. They aren't post-Punk. I don't know what the Hell they are, but they are loud, angry, full of love and here to date you. All of you. This is a brilliant and very aggressive set, including a cover of the Beatles "All You Need is Love".
If you haven't heard Idles yet, you are really in for a treat. Seeing them live is an event like no other. Check out some live videos of them. I actually took this particular show from the video feed. WOW! It's on my to-do list to see these guys live the next time they make it to the Bay Area.

Our headliner tonight is the cream of the crop. All the way from Australia and ready to show you how absolutely, and justifiably pissed off she is, Amyl and the Sniffers! What a brilliant set this is. Sadly I missed when they were in SF. I was sick, and not COVID sick. I have no idea what the Hell that was about. I haven't been ill since November 2017, and before that summer 1997. No lie. I never get sick. I was really looking forward to that show too. Dang. This will have to do. And it will.

I also took this from the video feed, so go out there and find it so you can watch it too!

I personally love both of these sets for two international bands calling out the US Supreme Court for overturning Roe v. Wade. I mean really, where the fuck is this country going? And I teach law and civics for fuck's sake!

First up, considered one of the all-time greatest guitarists, and chances are you have never heard him: Mdou Moctar, all the way from Agadez, Niger, who performs modern rock music inspired by Tuareg guitar music. His first guitar used bicycle cables as strings. His style is a mix of Tuareg mixed with many rock elements. This guy knows his way up and down a fretboard.
I have a short opening set for you performed live at the Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina, September 07, 2019. This is a clean soundboard recording, where you can hear every note as if you're sitting next to him on the stage.

Our headliner tonight is none other than Pearl herself, Janis Joplin along with her backing band the Full Tilt Boogie Band. This show was recorded during the mythical Festival Express tour, featuring Joplin, The Grateful Dead, The Band, and many more amazing acts, all taking the train across Canada during the summer of 1970. If you want to get a look at some of the highlights, including footage of them partying and playing on the train, you can catch the official documentary, released in 2003.
Joplin's set is a true classic. She is in prime form here, and the banter during and between songs is just excellent. I really love this show from June 28, 1970 at the CNE Stadium in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Hot damn, this was a great weekend! I attended Mosswood Meltdown, July 2nd and 3rd at Mosswood Park in Oakland. This used to be Burger Boogaloo until the Burger boys were justifiably canceled. Two great days with 18 amazing bands including Flipper, Kim Gordon, Shannon Shaw, Pansy Division, The Dirt Bombs, The Linda Lindas and more! And I ran into so many great people. It was like coming home week!
I also brought along my own stereo recorder hoping to grab a few sets. I've been collecting shows for decades, but I can count the number of shows I've recorded on one hand, literally.

Tonight I have two great shows I am super excited to share with you.



First up from the amphitheater stage are Hunx and His Punx, featuring Hunx (Seth Bogart) and Shannon Shaw. What a riot! The comments between the songs really add to the mix. I didn't record this one but I have to say it sounds great and you can really feel the crowd.


I did however record the headliner tonight, Bikini Kill!!!! Oh wow, what a joy this set was. I can't get into the backstage drama, but I can tell you the set is A+++. And my recording of it really surprised the Hell right outta me! The between-song banter is really worth the price of admission as Kathleen Hannah was on a warpath. You are really going to love this.

Another week, another opportunity to share a few shows from my vast bootleg library. I have thousands of shows, from hundreds of artists, spread across dozens of genres. It can be a real challenge to what to share with you from week to week. I have a running list organized in genres, of shows I think you'll really enjoy, but there are weeks that I find a show that I really need to place at the front of the line. Tonight is such a night.
First up, The Police on their first North American tour! And this particular show, March 29, 1979 at My Father's Place on Long Island in New York may just be the best show of the tour! No kidding. It's super hot. And the club is small enough that you can feel the energy coming straight through your speakers. If you're a fan of The Police, you are going to want to crank this up. They're touring behind their first release, Outlandos D'Amour, released in November 1978. The hits are there. One track in particular is so well received they play it twice! Apparently they played it twice almost each show of the tour. HA! This was broadcast on WLIR-FM

Though The Police would normally be considered a headlining act, this is my show, so no go. Instead our headliner tonight is the one and only The Cramps! I've got this remarkable show from April 21, 1986 in Zurich, Switzerland. WOW! For those of you who know The Cramps, you know of their love for everything B-Movie. Perhaps this is why I love them so much, being raised on the "best" of the 50s and 60s B-movies by a father who had a real keen sense of humor. Thanks dad. There's also the double entendre era Cramps. Starting with their "A Date With Elvis" era in 1986, sexual double entendres would almost be exclusive in their songwriting, making it challenging for them to be able to find distribution in the United States, especially with titles like "Can Your Pussy Do The Dog?". Well, can it?
This show features Lux, Poison Ivy, Nick Knox and Fur (Jennifer Dixon, the first bassist to ever appear with them on stage).

You ever get on the bus too late? Yeah, I hate when that happens. In this case, I found out about Japanese psych band, Kikagaku Moyo close to a year ago, shortly before they played to a sold out crowd in San Francisco; a show I could have attended, but decided not to. For shame. And then I read that they are embarking on their final tour as a band before calling it quits, because, you know, they're more successful than ever, so let's call it quits. Smart!

So they announce a farewell tour, and I see online when the Bay Area show is going to be, and I place the date tickets are going on sale onto my calendar, with an alarm set! I'm so psyched. I tell everyone I know to get tickets to this show! And then the morning of the ticket sale happens and I remember at the very last moment that I'll be in Yosemite the day of the show. Nice

I did talk my buddy Eric into going, having never even heard the band before. He went. He took his wife. They love it.

So now I notice I am never to see this incredible band ever again, and low and behold they announce one more North American swing this coming fall!!! I did not hesitate to get my tickets this time. Please catch them before they move on to whatever is making them break up. I mean really, wtf?

This show is taken from November 19, 2021 at the Empty Bottle in Chicago, Illinois. I have never heard of this club, but this matrix recording is really good, so it tells me the room is solid. If you've never heard Kikagaku Moyo, calling them a psych band is really not doing them justice. They play traditional rock instruments, along with sitar. They have had more success outside of Japan, often playing the festival circuits. Their songs are long and build up to a strong jamming steam.

Their name translates to "geometric patterns" after their drummer which the drummer Go Kurosawa suggested as a band name after getting visuals caused by sleep deprivation during a long jam session at night.

I need to burn some sage or something to get this past few months off of me. I guess some metal sage will have to do.
Growing up in the 80s meant a lot of metal in my life. Luckily for me I never cared what my friends thought of my musical taste, so there was rock, metal, punk, rap, and the good ol' Grateful Dead.

But for tonight I really need to blistering guitar solos. I can't think of a better duo than these two headliners: Judas Priest and Black Sabbath.


Let's start off with some British Steel! Judas Priest with the double guitar assault of KK Downing and Glenn Tipton. In the 80s nothing could compare to these two. I still hold Priest up there as one of the greatest metal bands of all time. They set the standard of what heavy metal was supposed to be. I can still hear their influence in almost every band that calls themselves metal, today.
This show from September 10, 1982 at the Civic Center in San Antonio, Texas is the perfect example of a heavy metal band firing on all cylinders. The vocals of Rob Halford have never been better. The classic metal quintet is en fuego!

I truly believe there wouldn't even be a genre of metal if it weren't for our headliner tonight. Black Sabbath burst on the scene in 1969 and starting with their self-titled debut, blew the doors off every other band within a 100 mile radius. By 1971 a good one hundred bands around the world were trying to sound just like them. Even the great Flower Travelin' Band out of Japan covered "Black Sabbath" on their debut album just a few scant months after Sabbath released it.


I have quite a few Sabbath shows from throughout their career, but call me a purist, I really prefer the original quartet. This show from December 20, 1970 shows the prowess that is Black Sabbath. I would have loved to have been in the room during these early shows, when they were still finding their footing, and the audience was right along there with them.

When I think of the many shows rock impresario Bill Graham put together at the fabled Fillmore's, I always wondered what was going through his mind when he put a few of these together. Miles Davis opening for the Grateful Dead. Bo Diddley and Jefferson Airplane.
Tonight it's a dream show of mine: The Blasters and Toots and the Maytals.

Hot damn, I would have loved to have been to both of these shows. I actually have a very strong memory of seeing The Blasters on local cable access TV when I was living in El Toro, CA in between early 1981 and late 1982. I was between the ages of 10 - 12, and I can assure you it made a huge impact on my life, seeing those rockabilly studs on the stage. Dave Alvin looked like he was fucking the audience every time he slid that Tele between his open legs. And that HAIR!

Tonight I have such an amazing set from them I should be arrested. Check out The Blasters, March 27, 1982, live in their own backyard at The Roxy in Hollywood. I'm not 100% certain of the lineage but I do know it's a soundboard source. Get ready boogie.


Our headliner tonight is the one and only Toots and the Maytals, captured live at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, February 7, 1978. This was one hell of a tour. I have a few shows from it, and each is as good as the previous.
The thing I love about Toots is his ability to work the room. Seeing him live performing 54-46 Was My Number must have been pure magic. I know you're going to dig this.

Words won't do this justice. Have you ever heard Alice Coltrane? Have you ever hear OF Alice Coltrane? One could call her the widow of the late great, Jazz pioneer John Coltrane, and that would of course be true, but it doesn't do her justice.
Alice Coltrane is deserving of her own genre-leading, genre-bending titles. She was no coattail rider. Alice Coltrane was a force!


Alice Coltrane (née McLeod; August 27, 1937 – January 12, 2007), also known by her adopted Sanskrit name Turiyasangitananda, was an American jazz musician and composer, and in her later years a swamini. An accomplished pianist and one of the few harpists in the history of jazz, she recorded many albums as a bandleader, beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s for Impulse! and other record labels.[1] She was married to jazz saxophonist and composer John Coltrane, with whom she performed in 1966–1967.[2] One of the foremost exponents of the "spiritual jazz" style, her eclectic music proved widely influential both within and outside the world of jazz.
This performance tonight was recorded at the Berkeley Community Theater, Berkeley, CA, July 23, 1972, featuring Alice Coltrane (Harp, Organ, Piano), Charlie Haden (Bass), Ben Riley (Drums), Aashish Khan (Sarod), Pranesh Khan (Tabla), Bobby W. (Tambura [Tambora], Percussion).

This comes from a rare 2LP vinyl bootleg released in 2019. The sound is excellent for a boot, supposedly a soundboard recording, no other details. the performance, on the other hand, is incredible. The sarod/tabla duet parts are just the icing on the cake. Considering this is a vinyl bootleg, you will hear fade out/fade in following each track.

Following up this gem of a show was no easy task, so I'm not really going to try to one-up it. Instead I have something you have never hear before: an unreleased Tony Williams Lifetime recording from 1974, AKA "The Stockholm Sessions". This lineup, sometimes knows as "Wildlife" features Tony Willams (Drums), Jack Bruce (Bass), Allan Holdsworth (Guitar), Webster Lewis (Keys), Laura "Tequila" Logan (Vocals).
I would have given anything to see this lineup perform live. Side note, I saw Tony Williams funeral procession drive down Junipero Serra Boulevard when he passed away in 1997 at the young age of 51. Shoot, that's my age. Damn.

Well if you host a live bootleg show and don't play Led Zeppelin from time to time, what the hell are you doing this show for at all? I mean really now?
When it comes to collecting bootlegs for the past 35+ years there are four bands that have always been the staple: Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin.


There are plenty of quality Zep soundboards making the rounds today, but back in the 80s when I started collecting, finding a really good soundboard was not easy. Most of the shows that were available (and most were on vinyl) were C-quality audience. I still own about 20 of these. Once the digital age began, and more peer-to-peer sharing and then with Bit Torrent we started to see many more quality soundboards.
And then there's the performance itself. Led Zeppelin was really hit and miss when it came to bringing it live. The early years are by far the most consistent, as they were building a name for themselves. By the time 1975 came around, many shows were lackluster (IMHO). Plant's voice couldn't stay strong through the entire show. If Page was feeling down, he would drown it in Jack Daniels and play sloppy. Jones and Bonham were always pounding away, but without all four bringing their all, it got down right embarrassing at times.

Not so with this show. 1969 was still early for this band who knew they had to prove themselves in front of the finicky San Francisco crowd. Hippies-be-damned, Led Zeppelin was going to show them all what a powerhouse band they were. And so they did.

This show comes just three months after the release of their seminal debut self-titled album. And what a way to introduce them to the world! This was their second US tour of the year, and the first shows of this important tour. They knew they had to win over the states if they were going to mark their place as rock legends. April 27th is the final show of this four show run. They would complete four tours of the US in 1969, closing out their final tour of 1969 in of all places, San Francisco.
I can't say enough great things about this show brought to you by these fabulous four youths on the verge of rock stardom. Love them or hate them, can you even imagine the rock genre if there was no Led Zeppelin? I don't even want to think about that.

Tonight I'm headed to see Ty Segall's very loud side-project, FUZZ with Chad Ubovich and Charles Mootheart. This is the second (or third) time this show has been rescheduled. Cross your fingers it's happening. It'll be my third time seeing this group. I've seen Ty Segall probably about a dozen times in total now.

It's safe to say I have a crush on Ty Segall. I'll eat up anything this man releases (enter pun here).


That being said I wanted to set you up for a fun filled two hours (actually four hours) of Ty themed madness Monday night. Let's start off with a stellar performance from Ty Segall and the Muggers from February 27, 2016, from Webster Hall, NYC, in support of his "Emotional Mugger" release. So many treats during this show. I really appreciate that he'll throw new songs in his set, but he's never afraid of digging back into his vast catalogue either. Even though this is listed as his eighth official release, I know damn well by 2016 he'd put out a hefty barrage of 7" and 12" material. Just look at my record shelves!!!

Clapton. Is he really any good? Overrated? What's his deal? Cocky, for sure. I would have loved to have seen the look on his face the night he met Jimi Hendrix.

The radio hits were well and good, but when I discovered Cream when I was a young teenager, hungry for more than what I was hearing on the FM dial. I grabbed Disraeli Gears and practically wore that record out within a few months. Wheels of Fire didn't last that much longer. I know I had a few copies of each. Cream's version of British Psych-Rock-Blues was on an entirely other level. Way beyond the stratosphere. Maybe it was the tension between the three of them. It was definitely the tension. Oh, and the fact that they are the prototypical power trio, was a big seller for me. I am weak for power trios.

Since I began collecting bootlegs in the early-mid 1980s, Cream was always a band that I wanted to get my hands on. To date I have 15 shows throughout their short two year career, including all of their BBC sessions, all the way through their final tour.

Tonight I want to share one of my favorite shows from Cream's final tour, much of which has already been officially released. This show was not. October 20, 1968, San Diego Sports Arena, San Diego, CA. This is their final California performance and one month before their dissolution.

And this is just the warm up act!

The headliner tonight also features Eric Clapton. I really fell hard for Derek and the Dominos. Once I found them I didn't put them down for 20+ years. I loved that Duane Allman recorded with them. I love how this band coalesced around Delaney and Bonnie and Friends.

Wow, this band. Hot damn! Where bootlegs are concerned, it is very challenging to find soundboards from this band. And only once (from what I know) did Duane Allman join them on stage (December 1, 1970 Curtis Dixon Hall, Tampa, FL). It was too expensive for bands to record live shows of themselves back in the 70s. Tape was expensive. Too bad.

They release the "Live at the Fillmore East", culled from two shows in October 1970. What an incredible album. Tonight I have the music from those two shows that was not officially released. These are the Fillmore outtakes.
