Resipscent Records 2014 Releases!
I say the name of the record label incorrectly throughout the podcast, but that shouldn't dissuade you from listening to almost 2 hours of local maximum cognitive dissonance from local SF label Resipscent Records. Two 2014 releases are showcased: MOIRA SCAR's "Scarred For Life" and ZEEK SHECK's epic "Joinus". Both are played in their pristine obsidian vinyl versions for your listening pleasure/pain. Get with the Bay Area craziness, fellow music geeks!

Schlager Vs. Post Rock!
From the sublimely ridiculous to the ridiculously sublime we travel in this odd but compelling episode of GE. The journey starts with 6 slices from 6 different countries featured on '70s schlock-meister JAMES LAST's epic Around The World 3-LP set. Then as the kitsch becomes impossible to take, host The Rock'N'Roll Nurse shifts gears to post-rock giants SCENIC (featuring the genius of SAVAGE REPUBLIC's Bruce Licher)and FANG WIZARD (featuring the genius of UNREST's Mark Robinson). Some Rumi and Daily Buddhist teaching gets thrown in just to create a bit more cognitive dissonance. Ride the roller coaster if you dare, fellow music geeks!

P.F. SLOAN Does LUDWIG VAN!

P.F. SLOAN Does LUDWIG VAN!
Legendary singer/songwriter/guitarist P.F. SLOAN wrote some of the swimmingest surf songs, the poppiest pop songs, and the angriest folk anthems of the 1960s, most while still in his teens! He culled plenty of rabid fans but that seemed to matter little to an indifferent music industry that did not seem to know what to do with his immense talent. Nearly 50 years later, after 14 years of painstaking research and recording, P.F. unleashed a gem of pop/classical genius called My Beethoven. Hear the entire album and many vintage hits from the P.F. SLOAN catalog along with edited highlights from a discussion he recently had with your host The Rock'N'Roll Nurse on this very special episode of GE. 50 years of musical genius revealed for your ears only, fellow music geeks!

THE CAMPBELL APARTMENT Pops Live!
Local SF pop hero ARI VAIS from THE CAMPBELL APARTMENT stopped by RV studios to play some live tunes and some new recorded hits from the upcoming CA vinyl(!) EP Sundogs. The unpredictable and freewheeling discussion that ensued ran the gamut from power-pop heroes from the '70s to irascible Russian hospital patients. Hear all this and a ton of great KINKS hits on this odd and endearing episode of GE. Pop with the moderns, fellow music geeks!

New Wave Vs. Schlager!

Geek Emanation
New Wave Vs. Schlager!
The first hour of this special episode of GE is firmly ensconced in the sounds of New Wave as practiced in the last 20 years, culminating in an extremely goofy interview with local heroes THE Y AXES. The second hour descends into the madness that was German Schlager-esque soundtrack music from the late '60s/early '70s. Don't even ask, just listen... Plenty of aural cognitive dissonance for you, fellow music geeks!

EDWARD ROGERS' Psych-Pop Bliss!
EDWARD ROGERS might not be a household name, but he has quietly been putting out some of the finest personal pop music for a decade with the help of members of PSYCHEDELIC FURS, TEENAGE FANCLUB, and some of the finest musicians NYC has to offer. CHROME Plating!

Geek Emanation
CHROME Plating!
CHROME is a seminal SF darkwave/psych/industrial band that put its first LP out in 1975! Ahead of its time is a huge understatement. The most recent record Feel It Like A Scientist was just released last month, and it rivals the best they've ever done. Your humble servant The Rock'N'Roll Nurse was graced with an interview opportunity with CHROME mainstay HELIOS CREED to boot. Hear most of the new LP and the coherent parts of the interview on this GE episode. Get out the acid goggles, fellow music geeks!

SPRINGHOUSE Stories And Songs!
In the early 1990s, a record came out by NYC pop/psych band SPRINGHOUSE named Land Falls made its way into my hands. Somehow that decade saw it disappear from my hands, but last year a SPRINGHOUSE record from 2007 called From Now To OK caught my attention and got me to do some audio archeology of the band's previous releases. The story of the rise/fall/rise again of this band got me to interview two of the original members to get the real story. Hear the results and lots of SPRINGHOUSE music on this episode of GE. Musical longevity matters, fellow music geeks!

Spaced-Out Instrumentalists!
After seeing BORIS live 2 days previously, the Rock'N'Roll Nurse found himself in a crazed and spacey state of mind. He perused his LP collection and found non-vocal work by the likes of PINK FLOYD, SCENIC, WINDY AND CARL, FÜXA, GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR, ROBERT QUINE/FRED MAHER, and the incredible boy genius HENRY PLOTNICK that suited his altered consciousness. Trip hard without pharmaceutical enhancement, fellow music geeks!

Your Richard Simmons Workout!
Back in the 1980s, workout albums and videos hit a fever pitch, buoyed by the massive success of Jane Fonda's Workout. In the midst of the repackaging of rock and disco hits with barked workout instruction overlayed, Richard Simmons took a different tack. He put out a legitimate pop/rock record with songs he wrote himself! Reach is his magnum opus, and lucky listeners to this podcast get to hear the 1982 masterpiece in its raw and uncut glory. Time to get in shape, fellow music geeks!

Progressive Rock On Parade!

Progressive Rock On Parade!
Sure prog-rock gets a bad rap in a post-punk era where simplicity and directness trump musical virtuosity, but it's still fun to look back at a time when pretentiousness was not only tolerated but rewarded! Here the prog heavies (YES, GENESIS, KING CRIMSON, STYX) along with some you might have missed (VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, GENTLE GIANT, PROCOL HARUM). No teenage lobotomies this show, fellow music geeks!

Wanna-Be Rock Classics!
Classic Rock has become the cliche that launched a thousand cheesy radio stations, but some of the actual music still packs a punch. Today's GE show will explore some great songs that could have been classic if they'd just gotten a break (and maybe some payola behind them). No shame in being close to classic, fellow music geeks!

Marry Me From Vancouver, BC

Marry Me From Vancouver, BC
Hailing from Vancouver, BC, MARRY ME play a kind of updated classic rock that brings to mind HEART and AEROSMITH. Not necessarily the usual fare on GE, but The Rock’N’Roll Nurse is old enough to remember when Classic Rock was being invented with a certain fondness. Hear an interview with smatterings of music old and new. Don’t be afraid to rock classically, fellow music geeks!

Out DAMNED Spot!!
The mighty DAMNED recently played our fair town, untold years after they first started playing their brand of punky pop music, and it was quite an amazing thing to witness. The experience inspired yours truly, The Rock’N’Roll Nurse, to play their epically undercheered power-pop masterpiece Strawberries in its entirety, and plenty of other great DAMNED songs as well. Out DAMNED spot out I say, fellow music geeks!
