ARGENT's Ardent Pop-Prog!
GE gets woefully obscure in a 2-hour celebration of the mostly forgotten '70s pop-prog pioneers ARGENT. From the ashes of Brit baroque-pop sensations The ZOMBIES came an ambitious band bent on breaking musical barriers led by keyboard wizard ROD ARGENT (and including his cousin JIM RODFORD on bass). Mostly known for 1 smash hit (1972s "Hold Your Head Up") and 1 cult classic (1973s "God Gave Rock And Roll To You"), their first 5 LPs informed the young musical palate of your host The Rock'N'Roll Nurse, and he obsessively presents highlights from those records for your aural pleasure. Prog-Lite forever, fellow music geeks!

GROUNDHOGS take over Radio Valencia!
Tony (T.S.) McPhee and The GROUNDHOGS were one of the heaviest blues-based UK bands in their 1970s heyday. They were also the favourite band of host The Rock'N'Roll Nurse in 1975, 40 years ago! 2 hours on a relatively obscure band from the last century may seem excessive, even self-indulgent, but that's what makes it a perfect geek pastime. Get with the rockin' boogie vibe, fellow music geeks!

Zappa's Geeky Opus!

Zappa's Geeky Opus!
In 1971 geeky maestro FRANK ZAPPA led The MOTHERS OF INVENTION and a dysfunctional family of friends and fans (including the likes of RINGO STARR, KEITH MOON, and THEODORE BIKEL, and TURTLES' alumni FLO & EDDIE) on a wild excursion into the extremes of self-indulgence with his film 200 Motels and the accompanying 2-LP soundtrack record. Much of the guided insanity seems dated today, but the project still commands attention as an inspired work of collective stream-of-consciousness. Hear the entire soundtrack and more music from the early-'70s era MOTHERS on this GE episode. Hail to the geek king, fellow music geeks!

MAN And Related Madness!
The '60s-'70s Welsh R&B/Prog/Boogie/Jam collective known as MAN had a particular connection with San Francisco, being arguably the UK's answer to MOBY GRAPE. It got a scandalous start when the track "Erotica" from MAN's first LP was banned by the BBC, and then went in many varied and unpredictable directions, even spinning off another fine prog-rock act The NEUTRONS. Hear plenty of early MAN tracks plus peripheral work by front-man DEKE LEONARD on this GE episode! Grove with the Wales/SF connection, fellow music geeks!

DUKE GARWOOD Speaks!
DUKE GARWOOD may not be a household name quite yet, but he's played with members of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, SCREAMING TREES, The ORB, SAVAGES, ARCHIE BRONSON OUTFIT, and THE MASTER MUSICIANS OF JAJOUKA. Indie survivor MARK LANEGAN described him as "one of his all time favorite artists" and working with him as "one of the best experiences of his recording life." Hear snippets of discussion and plenty of music from Mr. GARWOOD on this episode of The Geek EmaNation Show. Get down with the Brit-Swamp Blues, fellow music geeks!

MELVIN VAN PEEBLES "Sings"!
As MELVIN VAN PEEBLES put it himself, "What The F#%$@ You Mean I Can't Sing?!" Most people know about Mr. VAN PEEBLES' amazing innovative DIY film from the early '70s Sweet Sweetback's Badasssss Song, but few know that he put out a plethora of intriguing and revolutionary records around the same time, sometimes under the moniker BR'ER SOUL. Hear all the righteous anger and inspired proto-rap from this undersold genius on this nearly comprehensive podcast. Take it to The Man, fellow music geeks!

JOHN CALE Hailed!

JOHN CALE Hailed!
JOHN CALE (not to be confused with JJ CALE or JOHN CAGE) was one of the founding members of The VELVET UNDERGROUND, and kept himself plenty busy in the decade following his split from that band in 1968. In addition to producing some of the most important and influential rock recordings of the late 1970s (like PATTI SMITH's Horses and The STOOGES first LP) he had quite an amazing and productive solo career. This episode of GE plucks many of the highlights of Mr. CALE's LPs from that era for your listening pleasure. Hail the Godfather Of Punk, fellow music geeks!

KIM FOWLEY Animal Man RIP

KIM FOWLEY Animal Man RIP
KIM FOWLEY was a thorn in the side of the beast called pop music for over 50 years. He was arguably the trashy flip side of PHIL SPECTOR, recording crazy wild novelty singles just for the fun of it in the 1960s and then putting together acts like The RUNAWAYS and VENUS AND THE RAZORBLADES in the 1970s. In later years he was more like an underground svengali, showing up in various towns and recording outrageous records with local musicians, and then disappearing just as quickly. Irreverent, difficult, visionary -- he definitely left his mark. The Animal Man beckons, fellow music geeks!

50 Years Of Heino!
For those not familiar with the dubious pleasures of the German pop music genre known as "Schlager", you will get a 2-hour crash course lesson with this episode of GE. The King Of Schlager known as HEINO gets free reign to spew 50-some years of folky/dancy/schlocky pop bliss. If you're like JELLO BIAFRA and have a strong ear and stomach for some outre sounds, you're in luck. Schlocky shocky stuff for y'all, fellow music geeks!

Shameless Self-Promotion!
Today's episode features some talented local acts that are playing soon in San Francisco and environs, including The Rock'N'Roll Nurse's extreme solo act RAKEHELL. Breaking all rules of good taste and refusing to recuse himself due to conflict of interest, your not-so-humble host toots his own horn and plays 4 RAKEHELL tracks to waste your precious time. Also included are locals NIGHT HERONS, BITTERWIND, MAUS HAUS, and The Y AXES (playing 3 songs live, no less!). SF music nerds/geeks unite -- our moment of victory is nigh!

PETER JEFFERIES Uncensored!
Long-time fans like The Rock’N’Roll Nurse were very excited in 2013 with the reissues of PETER JEFFERIES’ 1st and 2nd solo records from the 1990s (The Last Great Challenge In A Dull World and Electricity) and a planned tour set to begin right here in the Bay Area. But alas, an overzealous Dept. Of Homeland Security decided we needed to be protected from the New Zealand musician’s art rather than be allowed to enjoy it. Mr. JEFFERIES may never be allowed to tour here, but you can hear his music and snippets of a free-wheeling telephone discussion on this DHS unapproved episode of Geek EmaNation. Audio blows against the empire, fellow music geeks!
