The Curated Catastrophe - Flying High, Above All Things
November 30, 2025 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
The Curated Catastrophe - Flying High, Above All Things
This was another random-theme episode, in this case "flight." Of the winged variety, as opposed to fleeing your troubles, groups of stairs, or a variety of wines. For the first time in what seems like months, Malderor and Shey are also not training anybody, so they can focus on bringing you good content. Or whatever this was. Also, friend-of-the-show NR drops by to talk art and cinema and things. And there is some metal. And maybe a few songs about flights of stairs, toward the end. Give ye olde podcast a download, won't you?

The Curated Catastrophe - A Conflagration of Bonfires
Malderor and Shey are joined in the studio by DJMJ, and play a bunch of songs about fire. For some reason. This is yet another episode that came together, despite a cavalcade of slapdashery. Malderor is too hungover to write a good blurb this week. He is reminded of Pancho Villa's (fictional?) last words: "“It can’t end like this. Tell them I said something.” Anyway, download the podcast and whatnot!

The Curated Catastrophe - The Human Body
Shey and Malderor are back in the studio, with a visiting new DJ named DJ Saffaire. There is a "theme" this week, The Human Body. Shey also gets WAY out there, (for her) playing Captain Beefheart and Black Flag. And Malderor's laptop dies in the middle of a song. Hilarity ensues. Give it a spin, won't you?

The Curated Catastrophe - A Very Viridescent Episode
We chose a theme this week. "Green." This was to remind us to thank the GRNHS Gallery for hosting our fundraiser! Also it was "popping" on the 22nd Street Arts Corridor, with events at the Makeout Room, an anniversary party at the taqueria across the street (with a mariachi band), and somebody giving away free hotdogs at a memorial. Plus! We are training new DJs. It was a bit chaotic. Give it a listen! There is a live-mic for the entire time Malderor tried to play a CD!

The Curated Catastrophe - Malderor Gazes At HIs Shoes and More!
Shey was on assignment, so Malderor was free to fly solo without an overarching theme. That said, he recently came into possession of a compilation showcasing an Australian shoegaze label, so he plays a bunch of tracks off that. Plus other new releases from Third Man records, and some of those 90s bands he always plays. And a little Wu-Tang! For the children!

The Curated Catastrophe - Place Names and Locations
Shey picked the theme this week, which proves that there is in fact a first time for everything. She chose Place Names, which yielded a deep vein of content, of varying quality. Malderor started a little too "cosmic", but got better as he went along. Shey started with little known artists like the Pet Shop Boys and ended up with the Counting Crows. So, well, at least she was consistent. Also, Malderor brought cookies, although I don't think it comes up on air. Check out the podcast below!

The Curated Catastrophe - Sports As A Metaphor. Or Not.
September 7, 2025 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
The Curated Catastrophe - Sports As A Metaphor. Or Not.
While grasping around for a show-theme this week, Malderor was not particularly inspired. As such, he chose "Sports Language As A Metaphor For Other Things" which was discussed in a pre-production call with Shey. The message, however, didn't sink in, and we ended up with a program that was half songs about sports, and half songs using sports terms metaphorically. Also worth noting, Malderor didn't particularly like this theme from the get-go, and just sort of grinds it out, and some sets don't have a lot of follow-through. (We bench the worst set of songs early.) Some redemption comes toward the end, but overall, it's a shaky performance on the mound. While he didn't exactly choke, it wasn't one for the record books. Oh, Shey does put together a quality segment of theme-songs from televised sporting events, to test Malderor's non-sporto knowledge of such things. Check it out on the podcast!

The Curated Catastrophe - Two Roads Diverged
Oh, lordy Jesus. There were some crossed wires this week, as Malderor and Shey had aligned on a theme 48 hours previous to the show, and then Shey forgot what it was. The theoretical theme was "numbers" but Shey produced an entire show about "time," despite being aware we had already produced a show with that exact theme. But, um, it still hangs together. Barely.

Another themed episode. This time it's "streets", because Sunday Streets is going on while Shey and Malderor are doing their humble radio show. It more or less hangs together from a thematic perspective, and Malderor attempts a new regular segment, with only moderate success. Plus: DJ Saint G pops in! The Curated Catastrophe - Themes? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Themes
Shey picked a theme, for once, and then completely ignored it. Which is just as well, since Malderor hadn't done any prep at all. Not for once. The theme was supposed to be Shey's birthday, which is coming up this week. But really all that it meant was Malderor played music from the year she was born, and Shey played unrelated tunes. Whatever, your hosts are extra-chatty this week, because they'd taken a month off doing live radio in the studio. Still, it somehow comes together as a radio show in the end. Download the podcast and see if they don't pull it off!

The Curated Catastrophe - Kings, Queens, Royalty, and Chitchat!
Malderor's mind is elsewhere. (Maybe in France?) So this week's podcast has a theme he chose, so as to make life simple for your humble narrators. Shey plays lots of French stuff, and is very proud of her intro segment. There's also a weird side-trip into cowbell-heavy classic rock later in the program. And some Britpop, and grousing about AI. Check out the podcast, over yonder!

The Curated Catastrophe - Chaos, Marimbas, and Songs That Sound Life Other Songs
Shey and Malderor are back in the studio, at their best, freeform merchants of slapdashery. For the first time in a while, there is not an overriding theme. But somehow it kinda works. Maybe. Download the podcast below. You won't be disappointed. Maybe.

Malderor and Dr Junk
The Curated Catastrophe - Moving and Relocating
Shey is in the process of moving house, which is a massive pain in the ass whenever one has to (or gets to) do it. So this week we picked a theme about relocating, versus the many "move your body" type "moving" songs. So this is an episode about moving, transitioning, and/or leaving your old life or circumstances behind. There's also some wimpy folk-rock.

Malderor and Dr Junk
The Curated Catastrophe - Protest Music From Here and There
Shey was on assignment, so Malderor held down the fort and played a selection of protest songs, from the US and abroad. So things varied from contemporary hip-hop to pre-war antifascist and anarchist anthems. This show will probably get Malderor thrown in an El Salvadoran prison.
