THE KING OF THE GOLDEN RIVER
BY JOHN RUSKIN. What were the Two Black Stones? And the three brothers in long-ago Styria, Hans, Schwartz and Gluck-- how did they fare? While the walls shook from the oppressive Disco thumping from the club next door, we began our reading of Ruskin's compelling story. Not for everybody, but then, what is? As R. Crumb once cautioned, "Not everything's for children, not everything's for everybody." So the Show continues, if in a state of siege from external (and internal) forces. Who and what will prevail? That is the larger narrative here. Next week: the melting of the drinking mug of gold produces an unexpected result. Sunday night at the Make-Out Room, RV DJs, as they are known, will "spin platters," or the contemporary digital equivalent, from that very stage from which issue the noisy affronts to our show. It's all part of Radio V.'s fundraising efforts. Drop by and drop a few bucks in the kitty. The financial status of the station is sub-par, for various reasons. Your poor man's farthing or widow's mite just might help keep the enterprise going longer-- though what is truly needed is for a consistent and ample income stream to flow into the "station," as in fatter times. A Golden River, in other words. Listen to Part Two this upcoming Friday.
