Malderor - Lots Of Female-Fronted Bands This Week
November 8, 2015 2:00pm
Malderor actually had time to prepare this week, so we've got a fresh slate of new releases, as well as some new-to-him stuff and some bizarro covers. Kicking off with something by Lotus Thief, and moving on to newer releases from Savages, Merchandise, as well as tracks from Paul Anka and The Carpenters. (No, really.) Plus a bunch of female fronted shoezagey type stuff. (Malderor was also training Manny, a new Radio Valencia DJ, so there are the occasional bumps and interruptions, as things are demonstrated live on the air.) Check out this free-ranging playlist:

Malderor - Sweeping Grandeur and Some Random Dude I Met At A Bar
November 1, 2015 2:00pm
Halloween Hangover shows are always chaotic, and this is no exception. Malderor was massively hungover from seeing a show in Oakland the previous evening. So he was soothing his wounds at a nearby tavern when he met some amiable dude from Minnesota-by-way-of-Las-Vegas, and began to talk about music. Roughly 19 minutes later, Malderor convinced this random tourist to hop across the street and be on the goshdarn radio. So the first half of the show is comprised of the kind of EPIC black metal this dude (Scott) was into. Lots of requests from him for grand, shoegazey, bombastic black-ish metal stuff. Then the second half of the show is more epic tunes while Malderor realizes he hasn't eaten in a couple days and the rosé is really going to his head. Check it out! No playlist this week because hangover! Oh, and DJ Deathwish was there too, with the voice of god on his side.
Malderor - DJ Deathwish, Keith Richards, and Novelty Songs
October 25, 2015 2:00pm
This was a somewhat unusual episode. Malderor had watched a new Keith Richards documentary, (directed by his Academy-Award-winning-friend™, Morgan Neville) so the playlist has some of the old blues standards featured in the film. Then there's some focus on the new Killing Joke release, and an inexplicable detour into comedy novelty songs. (Some of which, but not all, were by request. Normally Malderor hates comedy music, but here we are.) Check it out below:
2:03pm: Holy War by The Lords Of The New Church
2:06pm: Never by JennyLee
2:09pm: Apotheosis by Killing Joke
2:22pm: Ain't Gonna Take It Anymore by Whitey Morgan

Malderor - Zero Preparation and DJ Deathwish
October 18, 2015 2:00pm
Malderor had basically zero time this week to prepare for the show, so we don't have the usual complement of new music. Instead you can expect a show chock-full of old-school punk rock, some cuts from the Supersucker's new country record, and some stoner metal from some band Malderor met last night at the Golden Bull in Oakland called "Them Evils." DJ Deathwish does turn up to help out with the mid-song banter, and the show turned out better than one might expect. Check it out!

Malderor Welcomes City College Board Candidate Tom Temprano
October 11, 2015 2:00pm
In a rare stab at actual "journalism", Malderor welcomes City College Board candidate Tom Temprano to the Radio Valencia studios, for a wide-ranging chat. They talk about City College, obviously, but also get into Tom's background as co-owner of Virgil's Sea Room and as a DJ at spectacularly popular local party "Hard French" at the El Rio. And then the second hour of the show is all the new and unreleased music you've come to expect on the 'Catastrophe, with added guests Uncle Kevin and DJ Deathwish. Apologies to the regular listeners, but I straight-up forgot to do the Bad Religion SAT word-of-the-week this time around.

Malderor - R Bar Benefit for National Disaster Search Dog Rescue
August 23, 2015 2:00pm
Today's show was a fundraiser for the National Disaster Search Dog Rescue Foundation. This fine organization takes rescue dogs from shelters, and trains them to find humans who are buried under rubble after earthquakes and other disasters. A big thanks to the R Bar for hosting us, and to the fine patrons who donated items to our raffle. We raised well over $500 for the Foundation, so nice work all around, and thanks for coming down to the event!
Thanks also to my radio colleagues from Bullwinkle's Whole Wide World and Cheap Hooch Radio for volunteering their time as well.
2:01pm: Malderor\'s Curated Catastrophe Dog Eat Dog by Adam and The Ants Malderor focuses on brand-new and unreleased music, mostly whatever\'s fresh this week from the UK and local scenes. He also delves into classic punk, experimental dub, garage, psych, shoegaze, and harbors a secret love of Britpop. Tune in to discover your next favorite song.

Malderor - Live Remote From Point Arena
August 16, 2015 2:00pm
Malderor was at a family reunion, but still did his show from a redwood deck in Manchester, CA, just outside of Point Arena. He was acceptably assisted by DJ Violet Crumble on this occasion, and they drank tequila and played records while overlooking the lighthouse.

Malderor - Psych and Disco; Training DJ Emils
August 9, 2015 2:00pm
Malderor was training a new DJ. DJ Emils, on the use of the Radio Valencia studio and "wheels-of-steel." As such, this episode is a bit bipolar, as Malderor's sets focused on an upcoming psychedelic rock festival ("The Gathering Of The Tribes") coming to Mighty. And DJ Emils played some of the classic disco and house that she's going to play on her new show, Thursdays from 6-8pm. Check it out!

The first two hours are Malderor's normal new-music and punk-rock smorgasbord, and the second two hours find Cheap Hooch playing vinyl (!) in a dive bar, with a battery-operated turntable. Malderor - Repeated Songs And Telephone Problems
July 19, 2015 2:00pm
It was sweltering in the Mission today, and Malderor decided to do a weird, difficult-to-describe theme. Since the show is almost entirely new music on a normal week, there are literally thousands of songs that Malderor played once on his show, then relegated to the dustbin of history. So this week he's playing stuff he played once, then filed away and forgot about. Features a surprising amount of covers, and some bands that went on to go multi-platinum.
Oh, and some fine individual unplugged the phone from the already delicate phone-system, so Malderor's attempts to contact the outside world met with frustration and failure.

Malderor - I Don't Remember Anything About This Show
July 19, 2015 1:00pm
For some reason this show never got podcasted, and now it's so far in the past I can't remember what we were trying to do. I'm also not sure why the podcast seems to include some or all of Bullwinkle's show and/or the Cheap Hoochies?

Malderor and a couple of trusty sidekicks, R Bar Ed and Magic Kelvin, covered for Rachel MaxMix, who was on assignment. With virtually no preparation, but aided by a bottle of rosé and some Jameson, they managed to concoct two hours of entertaining radio.

Malderor - Live From Wine Country
June 7, 2015 2:00pm
This show almost didn't happen, as the microphone failed, but after an alternative set-up was arranged, Malderor and this week's sidekick Violet Crumble did the show from a redwood deck in Healdsburg. There were occasional dips in the hot tub between mic breaks, and a great deal of wine was consumed. (The first half hour has been cut off due to the mic problems.)
