The Curated Catastrophe - Two Roads Diverged
July 27, 2025 2:00pm
Oh, lordy Jesus. There were some crossed wires this week, as Malderor and Shey had aligned on a theme 48 hours previous to the show, and then Shey forgot what it was. The theoretical theme was "numbers" but Shey produced an entire show about "time," despite being aware we had already produced a show with that exact theme. But, um, it still hangs together. Barely.

The Curated Catastrophe - The Sound of The Streets
July 20, 2025 2:00pm
Another themed episode. This time it's "streets", because Sunday Streets is going on while Shey and Malderor are doing their humble radio show. It more or less hangs together from a thematic perspective, and Malderor attempts a new regular segment, with only moderate success. Plus: DJ Saint G pops in! Give it a spin on ye olde podcasterizer devices now!

The Curated Catastrophe - Themes? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Themes
July 13, 2025 2:00pm
Shey picked a theme, for once, and then completely ignored it. Which is just as well, since Malderor hadn't done any prep at all. Not for once. The theme was supposed to be Shey's birthday, which is coming up this week. But really all that it meant was Malderor played music from the year she was born, and Shey played unrelated tunes. Whatever, your hosts are extra-chatty this week, because they'd taken a month off doing live radio in the studio. Still, it somehow comes together as a radio show in the end. Download the podcast and see if they don't pull it off!

The Curated Catastrophe - Kings, Queens, Royalty, and Chitchat!
June 15, 2025 2:00pm
Malderor's mind is elsewhere. (Maybe in France?) So this week's podcast has a theme he chose, so as to make life simple for your humble narrators. Shey plays lots of French stuff, and is very proud of her intro segment. There's also a weird side-trip into cowbell-heavy classic rock later in the program. And some Britpop, and grousing about AI. Check out the podcast, over yonder!

The Curated Catastrophe - Slapdashery Abounds
June 8, 2025 2:00pm
This week Shey delved into the bands who played yesterday's Porchfest Festival here in the Mission, while Malderor looked into local psych rock bands. There is also local hip-hop, some Pride Month-related LGBT songs, and definitely NO politics. Give the podcast a spin!

The Curated Catastrophe - Moving and Relocating
May 18, 2025 2:00pm
Shey is in the process of moving house, which is a massive pain in the ass whenever one has to (or gets to) do it. So this week we picked a theme about relocating, versus the many "move your body" type "moving" songs. So this is an episode about moving, transitioning, and/or leaving your old life or circumstances behind. There's also some wimpy folk-rock.

The Curated Catastrophe - Protest Music From Here and There
May 4, 2025 2:00pm
Shey was on assignment, so Malderor held down the fort and played a selection of protest songs, from the US and abroad. So things varied from contemporary hip-hop to pre-war antifascist and anarchist anthems. This show will probably get Malderor thrown in an El Salvadoran prison.

The Curated Catastrophe - Put Your Hands Together
April 20, 2025 2:00pm
Shey and Malderor are back in the studio, blissfully ignoring the obvious themes of "Easter" and "4/20", and instead doing a show about...hands? Hands. That was the theme apparently. Hands. Anyway, there's a WHOLE lotta music from the turn of the century for some reason, and also an unseemly amount of whining. Plus a double shot of Bad Religion SAT "Words of the Week," since neither word was remotely challenging. As ever, the show was held together with bailing wire, mediocre internet service, and the jiggling of wires. Check out the podcast!

The Curated Catastrophe - The Sickness
April 13, 2025 2:00pm
A show about germs, sickness, and disease. This was a holdover theme from several weeks back, when Malderor had to cancel the show, as he was too germ-ridden to go out in public. Unfortunately, Malderor STILL has a pesky nagging cough, so the theme was deemed still-worthy for this week's topic. Shey appears to have escaped the death-plague, but is fine mocking Malderor for his maladies. Plus: a visit from The Alchemist! Download the podcast!

The Curated Catastrophe - Uh...Snakes?
March 16, 2025 2:00pm
Shey and Malderor are back in the studio and working with a theme. Apparently at 10:56pm on Saturday night, Malderor texted Shey "Snakes? St. Patrick's Related?" So they did a show about snakes. (There is a surprisingly large reservoir of songs about snakes, it must be said.) Anyway, it's all explained in the episode, so you'll want to hammer that "download" or "stream" button, or whatever the kids are doing these days.

The Curated Catastrophe - Another Solo Adventure
January 26, 2025 2:00pm
Shey was abruptly called away on assignment, so the planned "themed" show for this episode went out the window, or was postponed til a later date anyway. Malderor wings it alone, without much plan. This enables him to play some new releases from the dancey and/or droney end of the spectrum, a little bit of current pop-punk, and also some tracks from the "festival bands" episode we did last summer. It's pretty "free-form", so give it a listen:

The Curated Catastrophe - The Best Of, Or The Best We Could Do
December 29, 2024 2:00pm
While the debate continues as far as whether "themed" episodes are the way forward, it was generally considered a good idea to take it easy for the rest of the year. So Shey and Malderor decided to do a "best of 2024" episode theme, or at least a "best we could manage" theme. So they played some of their more-favored tracks from the previous year's broadcasts. Shenanigans ensue. Check out the podcast.

The Curated Catastrophe - Letters, Messages, and Correspondence
December 22, 2024 2:00pm
Malderor and Shey are still debating whether they like doing shows based around a theme, but it's also the idle time at the end of the year where nobody feels like working too hard. So they picked a theme about correspondence, mail, postage, and letters, to give them something to center the show around this week. For some reason the US Postal Service has been in the news recently, so there is some passing commentary on that whole situation. And lots of songs about letters. Check out the podcast!

The Curated Catastrophe - Freeform Goodness, From Shoegaze To Powerpop
November 24, 2024 2:00pm
There wasn't much preproduction or preparation from either party this week, so this is a seat-of-the-pants episode from Shey and Malderor. There is a set of new-ish shoegaze, some bands Malderor is going to see live in the coming weeks, and somehow we end up exploring the definition of "powerpop." And Shey plays Dave Matthews. So, yeah, it's what you've come to expect from the Catastrophe. Give it a download, won't you?
