Malderor Covers For Cold Ones And Rolled Ones
January 2, 2014 6:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Malderor Covers For Cold Ones And Rolled Ones
Ami Lawless was unavailable, so Malderor covered for her normal metal/punk show, and took the opportunity to focus on some of the best metal releases from 2013, from the Bay Area and around the world, as well as a few old classics and a quick detour into d-beat. There is also a double-shot of Bolt Thrower as their Oakland Metro date got my vote for Metal Show Of The Year. (Thanks to Cory from Illogical Contraption for some assistance with this playlist.)

Instead of a "Best of 2013" show, Malderor is playing a bunch of songs that weren't quite good enough to make other playlists during the year. It's a selection of songs that weren't quite as good as some other ones. Dr. Junk is still playing on this month-long theme.

A Last(?) Broadcast From The Attic
December 22, 2013 12:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
A Last(?) Broadcast From The Attic
This is another broadcast from the notorious Mission district dive bar, The Attic, which is claiming to be closing in the new year. Given that Malderor and Dr. Junk did an impromptu late-night shift on the radio station the night before, they may have been a bit "easily lubricated" this morning. This might not be a show of genuine radio excellence. They don't know, they can't remember. (Includes 2 hours of Bullwinkle, too.)

RBH, Alongside Malderor and Dr. Junk, Takes Over For Ribbon Around A Bomb
Malderor and Dr. Junk covered for Erin's punk rock show, as she was out of town. They brought along a good friend of the station, Mr. RBH, who in turn brought a nice single malt Scotch. It got mildly messy.

Hazing The New Guy
Malderor's new coworker, Adam, drops by to check out this "pirate radio" thing. He brought beer. Dr. Junk is still working through his issues, and they play some of the bigger "hits" from the punk era. (Weirdly, we had abnormally high listenership, and lots of requests came in through the chatroom.)

A Gaggle of Thespians

Malderor and Dr Junk
A Gaggle of Thespians
Dr. Junk didn't bother to prepare, at all, so it was up to Malderor to play cuts from his Best Of 2013 playlist. More importantly, we had the cast from "Top Guys" in again to promote their live theatrical version of Top Gun, as well as the cast of an upcoming production of an Exquisite Corpse Sci Fi Play. So it was basically actors-a-go-go, with a lot of pregame drinking from your humble hosts.

A Very Special Episode

Malderor and Dr Junk
A Very Special Episode
Malderor woke up on the floor of a downtown hotel room, and Dr. Junk was up early watching his (American) football team play to a tie. So this episode was always going to be a bit slapdash. Add in Malderor's wife's birthday, random relatives, and a bucket of whiskey, and you're going to get one of the messiest episodes ever. Big thanks to Bullwinkle for hanging out and playing awesome tunes (since Dr. Junk hadn't prepared, at all). Oh, and Netzard spins some birthday music.

There is also a sub-theme about domestic abuse. No reason.

November 10, 2013 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
A Lot Of 80s And A Lot Of Questionable Choices
Malderor and Dr. Junk are back with another fun-packed episode. Well, to be honest, this was one of the more cantakerous, squabbly shows on record. Malderor had a ton of stuff that was somehow 80s themed or influenced, and even Dr. Junk described his sets a "meh". But Kristian came by to sell us on the idea of renaming the Bay Bridge after Emperor Norton, and prospective DJ Nick Bootz came by to learn the ropes, so we made him take the trash out.

Malderor and Dr Junk
One Chord And The Truth
Malderor was saddened to hear that Lou Reed had passed away this morning so, like many other DJs on the planet, he cobbled together a tribute show. He plays a few Velvet Underground songs, and quite a few bands that were influenced by the Velvets. Also, Magic Kristian comes by to talk about renaming the Bay Bridge for Emperor Norton. And Bullwinkle hangs out to enjoy the craic. Oh, and Dr. Junk was at "the clinic" getting a shot to clear things up. Check it out.

Dr. Junk Goes To The Track
October 20, 2013 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Dr. Junk Goes To The Track
Unfortunately, Malderor has to work a regular "day job" to support his pirate radio habit. As such, he was busy working for the first half hour of today's show. Dr. Junk, of course, was able to handle the show on his own and play great tunes for the radio audience. Wait, who am I kidding? Dr. Junk went to Golden Gate Fields instead of dealing with his radio responsibilities.

There was almost zero prep for this one, but huge thanks to Bullwinkle for holding down the fort while Malderor took a cab from his office to the studio. Dr. Junk is an asshole.

Malderor Covers for Disco Roto & Plays Lots of Covers
October 17, 2013 8:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Malderor Covers for Disco Roto & Plays Lots of Covers
Malderor was covering the Disco Roto show for Michelle K-Tel, and he had a big pile of odd covers come across his desk this week, so that's mostly what he played. He also had his High School friend Alanopski drop by the studio to hang out, so he may have drifted into some 90's "alternative" there towards the end. Oh, and he started with some metal to ease the transition from Cold Ones and Rolled Ones, plus he played a new Suede b-side and a bunch of Frank Turner-related groups. Ah, heck, here's the playlist:

Dr. Junk and Bullwinkle: Going It Alone Once Again, Plus Johnny Arco
October 13, 2013 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Dr. Junk and Bullwinkle: Going It Alone Once Again, Plus Johnny Arco
Malderor is still "on assignment", so Dr. Junk was holding down the fort on his own once again. His favored (American) football team, the Minnesota Vikings started playing at 10am, so he'd been drinking for approximately four hours before the show even began. DJ Bullwinkle hung out to help prop up the program as best he could, but let's see how it sounds, shall we? (Edit: Apparently touring Violin player Johnny Arco stopped by to perform as well, and Dr. Junk was basically incapable of asking compelling questions, and kept demanding he play Beatles covers. Thanks for being a good sport, Johnny.)

Malderor and Dr Junk
Dr. Junk and Bullwinkle: Hardly Strictly Music
Malderor is on-assignment, so Dr. Junk enlists Bullwinkle to help him with his basic radio functions. They play a bunch of artists performing at this weekend's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival (which they can't quite pronounce). And some other crap. Listen as Dr. Junk attempts to say "expository." It was okay, I guess.

Malderor and Dr. Junk; Chaos Ensues

Malderor and Dr Junk
Malderor and Dr. Junk; Chaos Ensues
Malderor and Dr. Junk have a fine episode, featuring new Grant Hart, old Barrence Whitfield & the Savages, and some Interrupters, amongst many more. Also, Dr. Junk declares emphatically that Bob Mould was NOT in Hüsker Dü. Then the crew volunteers to cover for the fine Cheap Hooch Ladies. (Holly Hooch is off getting married. Sorry, fellas.) The show promptly takes a turn for the chaotic as Bullwinkle returns with many friends and disciples in tow, and there are roughly eighty-five DJs in the control-booth. There is grindcore and blues and a band somebody recorded on their iphone and it's all Malderor can do to keep the insanity in check to adhere to proper broadcast standards.

Malderor and Dr. Junk, Live From A Dive Bar
Our monthly live-remote series continues, live from The Attic on 24th Street in San Francisco. There were a few technical hurdles, (and Dr. Junk showed up just rat-arsed drunk already) but it turned out reasonably well. Features lots of bands on the Pirates Press label in honor of their upcoming 9th Anniversary. (Show is missing about 15 minutes due to the stream dropping. All you missed was one of Dr. Junk's sets which featured Conor Oberst and Slayer. We have edited out the downtime.)
