Filling In For Naked Rob
January 1, 2013 4:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Filling In For Naked Rob
Naked Rob was hungover for New Year's Day, and therefore unable to do his regular "Terrible Tuesday" heavy metal show. Malderor was also hungover, but decided to clear his head with two hours of brutality and extremity. (His friend Mully stopped by to help out as well.) This is not your normal punk-and-britpop Malderor-and-Dr. Junk show, but is instead two hours of the heavy, heavy end of extreme music. Includes Slayer, Dio, and Lamb of God, (on the accessible end) as well as Anaal Nathrakh, Death March, and Cryptopsy. \m/

DJ Bullwinkle
December 30, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
DJ Bullwinkle
Dr. Junk was "resting" this week, so Malderor drafted in former KFJC alum DJ Bullwinkle, who played a great selection of obscure garage-rock classics. And Malderor played some of his favorite singles from 2012, although this wasn't a proper 'best-of' show, since he didn't prepare that thoroughly. The first 35 minutes of the program were lost due to sound-card issues, but we join the proceedings on the podcast once they actually got underway.

Malderor and Dr Junk
Ghost Town Gospel
Local roustabouts Ghost Town Gospel dropped by the studio and played some live music. Dr. Junk was intoxicated. Malderor was awesome. Or something.

Oh, right, Dr, Junk and Malderor were at The Supersuckers show at Thee Parkside the night before this program. They are hungover as mofos. That explains much.

Malderor and Dr Junk
Mistakes Were Made
It's the holiday-party season, and Malderor showed up at the studio "over-refreshed". Dr. Junk sort of muddles through, and The Mysterious D from legendary SF nightclub "Bootie" drops by the program. (Puzzlingly, no mashups are played.)

Dr. Junk Has A Very "Special" Guest
December 2, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Dr. Junk Has A Very "Special" Guest
Dr. Junk was on his own this week, as Malderor was called away on urgent day-job business. So Dr. Junk drafted in an old work colleague from his days as a computer-nerd-for-hire. A wild guess says they probably give Malderor a good deal of grief for not being present, but I haven't listened to it yet. Go ahead and download the podcast and see what terrible things were said.

Oh, here's what he played:

Malderor and Dr Junk
Vir and Stuff.
Sam from local shoegaze gods Vir dropped by to promote his band's upcoming show at the Bottom of the Hill, on Dec. 1st. Then Dr. Junk got all obsessed with R. Kelly and whatnot. So things happened. And stuff.

Radio Turnstyle
November 23, 2012 6:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Radio Turnstyle
A prime-time spot opened up this holiday weekend, so a motley selection of Radio Valencia DJs held an impromptu cocktail and psychedelic music listening party, as a sort of adjunct to Brian Cox's Sonic Subversion show. Parties involved included Malderor, Juan Rapido, Ferrara Brain Pan, Dr. Sleepless, Aslan, Bunnywhiskers, and Sweet Jesus, and others I've no doubt forgotten. Drinks were drunk, minds were expanded, and the psychedelic genre was explored, both old and new. Thanks to Play For Today for offering up their airtime.

The Sound Of Preparation
November 18, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
The Sound Of Preparation
Dr. Junk and Malderor actually prepared this week, and the ladies from Cheap Hooch dropped by a bit early. A fine, fine episode of the Malderor & Dr. Junk show, featuring new tracks from Ghost Town Gospel, Vagabondage, Echo Lake, The Donots, and many more. Oh, hey, here's a playlist:

Malderor and Dr. Junk Get In The Hottub
November 14, 2012 8:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Malderor and Dr. Junk Get In The Hottub
Juan Rapido was out of town, so Malderor and (mostly) Dr. Junk filled in on Dante's Hottub. Preparation wasn't a huge priority, and Malderor didn't even show up for the first 30 minutes, so this is a loose and off-the-cuff episode of the show. Kind of a tightrope, "will they pull it off" kind of program. Features new music from the Hell Preachers, Inc., Johnny Legend, and Thee Faction, amongst many others.

Noah No-Last-Name-Given
November 11, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Noah No-Last-Name-Given
Malderor's music-obsessed coworker Noah No-Last-Name-Given dropped by the new(ish) studio to play various cuts on vinyl and mp3. Dr. Junk was drunk and surly. And there were plentiful technical screw-ups from whomever was running the board. So, basically, your typical episode of the Malderor and Dr. Junk show. With some awesome garage rock and indie from Ty Segall, Eagulls, and A Place To Bury Strangers. Download that shit, homie. (Do people still say "homie?")

Whatever, here's a playlist:

Dr. Junk Covers for Thump Juice

Thump Juice couldn't do their regular Friday night show, so Dr. Junk took over for a prime-time slot of Dr. Junk's musical stylings.

A Giants-Sized Hangover
October 28, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
A Giants-Sized Hangover
This show was all about the San Francisco Giants, who were in the midst of sweeping the Detroit Tigers to win the goddamn World Series of Baseball. So Malderor and Dr. Junk had been drinking. A lot. Which, weirdly, lent itself to one of the most musically cohesive episodes of the program ever.

The Rapid Junk Show

Malderor and Dr Junk
The Rapid Junk Show
Dr. Junk and Juan Rapido joined forces on a rare open Saturday evening primetime timeslot, for two hours of radio goodness (and making fun of Malderor) live from our brand new studios.

Another Backyard BBQ with Cheap Hooch and Juan Rapido
September 30, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Another Backyard BBQ with Cheap Hooch and Juan Rapido
It was a beautiful day in the Bay Area, so we broadcast from a backyard BBQ in Noe Valley. We also had Cheap Hooch and Juan Rapido guesting on the show, and Malderor played (almost) 100% new music out of the UK, much of it still unreleased in the US. This included the Fixers, Peace, Gabriel Brice, Tame Impala and many more. (Malderor unearthed a veritable motherlode of new British music for this week.) There was also food, and drink, and sunshine and good times. Give it a download, won't you? (BEWARE. There was some issue with the internet connection, so there are a good number of skips and dropouts in the first half hour. We fixed it after that, but we apologize for the less-than-perfect sound at the start.)

Playlist:
2:04pm: Perfect Weather by Gabriel Bruce

2:05pm: Who Says Boys by Fixers

2:09pm: California Daze by Peace

The Malderor and D$ Show
September 23, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
The Malderor and D$ Show
Both Dr. Junk and Holly Hooch were off "camping" this weekend, so Malderor and D$ decided to pool their efforts and do a four-hour Malderor/Cheap Hooch radio show. We also threw open the doors of the new Radio Valencia location for an "open studio", so there is a rambunctious live-studio audience mixing cocktails in the background for all the mic breaks. We also played new music from Vir, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Larry & His Flask, Firewater, and Ringo Deathstarr.

Brian from Steamstock, plus Cheap Hooch

Malderor and Dr Junk
Brian from Steamstock, plus Cheap Hooch
Brain from www.steamstock.org came by to talk about his festival and play a few songs from the performers he has lined up. Then Cheap Hooch showed up for their show, and Malderor stuck around and yammered far into their timeslot. There was also whiskey. Oh, this was also our first "real" show from our brand new studio.

Building A New Studio.
September 9, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Building A New Studio.
This show was relatively messy, as Malderor and Dr. Junk tried to continue their show as-normal, despite the fact that Radio Valencia is physically moving from their former studio to their new location at 20th and Mission. So there are the sounds of active construction in the background, as our new space is being built around us, and Malderor & Dr Junk play their usual flawless musical sets. With support from Juan Rapido and the ladies from Cheap Hooch Radio. And Fernet. Features new music from Lost Romance, The Hobbes Fanclub, Goldblade, and some random West African funk.

Live From A Swim-Up-Bar In Mexico
September 2, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Live From A Swim-Up-Bar In Mexico
This week we're live on the air from sunny Mexico! Dr. Junk and I broadcast from a beach in Zihautanejo. There was a high surf advisory, and a 100% chance of margaritas. (Backstory: after last year's labor-intensive trip to Burning Man, we agreed on "The Playa" that we'd blow off Burning Man in 2012 and do our show from a swim-up-bar in Mexico.) So this show was brought to you while dangling our bits in a pool and drinking something called a "Coco Loco" out of a fresh coconut.

Also, it came to our attention mid-show that we were being rebroadcast by a camp called "Airship Victoria" at Black Rock City. So there is much mocking of poor benighted fools in the desert.

Special thanks to listeners from Amsterdam, Santa Rosa, New York state, Black Rock City, San Francisco, and wherever you tuned in from.

(Check out the blogpost for many more photos from the event.)

http://radiovalencia.fm/malderoranddrjunk/2012/09/06/live-from-a-swim-up-bar-in-mexico/

(Podcast includes the first hour or so of Cheap Hooch, because I didn't have a chance to listen to them before I went for a swim. At the bar.)

Dr. Junk Is Alone, and Mocking Malderor
August 26, 2012 2:00pm

Malderor and Dr Junk
Dr. Junk Is Alone, and Mocking Malderor
Malderor was away on family business, but Dr. Junk held down the fort semi-ably. He played his normal selection of predictable songs, focusing mainly on our upcoming remote production, planned to be broadcast next week from a swim-up-bar in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. But it's an amiable enough selection, and he managed to mock Malderor senselessly, who was listening in the central valley with his mother when Dr. Junk played "The Blowjob Song."
